I see your point but why go looking for trouble? If you are starting to question your judgement, have a few more shots.
I’ve been saying this all along, it’s not the Tranny, it’s you that has the problem.

What gear were you guys in when you experience these concerns. Sounds like truck is downshifting more than one gear, which means it is probably coasting still in 3rd gear at a very low speed and therefore can't accelerate quick enough with a single downshift.

Not defending the guy, playing devils advocate.

But I for example bought my taco sight unseen "ordered". Always wanted a taco, 3rd gen was the latest, purchased. Not everyone goes through the high horse methodical steps to vehicle purchase. Some have the expectation that the product they are paying between 25 to 48k meets a certain level of DEFAULT requirements. Even non car enthusiasts know the legendary reputation of Toyota hilux and tacoma. This leads to a certain level of trust and complacency. Or the thought of "well every other truck they ever made was amazing, there is no reason THIS specific one will be the first that isnt" and that seems perfectly logical and fair to come to that conclusion.

I've had the exact same exp when it was brand new. I was extremely disappointed, borderline disgusted sick in how it performed from the factory for safety reasons. As I would be merging at highway speeds and its constantly trying to shift into the next gear, I press harder, shifts up again, then down again, I press harder, shifts up again etc etc. And what OP complained about needing the truck to get out of the way, and it is like waking a sloth up from a coma.

All that said, after I tuned it all that but vanished. So it wasn't the trans, and its not that stupid overly complex engine. Nor is it the traction control. It is the ignorant programming they put into the ECU. They prioritized suckingthe EPAs dick, and artificially inflated its MPG by forcing it to prioritize keeping the truck at its lowest RPM at all times regardless of circumstances, environment or driver command. Because all their asinine expensive dual cycle, dual injection nonsense didnt have any real world fuel efficiency savings.

When I first tuned to 1.05 it got more power, the mpg increased ever so slightly, but the shifting was still junk. But when I tuned to 2.0 it got more power, the shift points feel like any other properly tuned auto, and the mpg went DOWN. Supporting my prior arguement. The whole reason they did that shit was for ver increasing emissions and fuel economy restrictions being pushed by places like California.

Moral of the rant is dont get rid of it, tune it. Screw the EPA. I'm not getting Tboned at an intersection because some hippie wants to save a whale.

How about those of us who’s transmission doesn’t do that? You know, the ones with trucks that perform just like any other trucks? Or in other words, our “TRANSMISSIONS ARE NOT SAFETY HAZARDS” ...

Ive never seen this before with any other model of vehicle - Truck, car or bike. Why is it that everybody who owns a Tacoma with an issue automatically assumes everyone else’s has the same problem?

I test drove the shit out of mine before buying and that’s why I own it today. And I don’t mean the same model. I mean the exact truck I ended up buying specifically.

Because you are supposed to say “me too” and be a victim, whether it involves you or not. I think that if I look a little harder, listen a little closer and involve my feelings in the situation... I just may notice it too

i guess because you weren't around here in 2016-7 when the hottest topic at TW was AT issues. 2nd hottest diff leaks. and it just didn't slow down until 2018.

I forgot about the diff leaks. My 16 had a leaky diff, which I noticed right before a 3500 mile road trip (with trailer). Dealer said "no worries, it should last until we get parts in, bring it back after your trip and we'll fix it." Surprisingly, it made the trip without a hiccup and they fixed it afterwards exactly as they said.

That's a very simple statement to rebut. Because there have been SO MANY complaints from customers that toyota themselves had put out a TSB, admitted fault and issue, and announced a fix. So by that logic it stands to reason there are more people with the problem than without. So I would ask you the same question you proposed, but in reverse. And then ask you to support your claim with evidence as to why you believe you are speaking for the majority?

No, more of a rhetorical question.

If there was really major issues with this truck in the real world, the internet would have killed it by now imo.

TW is a "different" kinda world.

I have no issues with my 2017 SR. I had the trans re-flash done some time back and don’t have the pedal commander or the always on etc mod. Also truck is still stock and works just fine.
