I take a french press with me when I am out backpacking. When out camping we take our perculator.

Recently I found coffee bags that brew out like tea bags. Tried one over the weekend and it won me over. I feel that it will replace my french press for backpacking since the loose grounds can be a pain after the 2nd or 3rd day in the back country.

I've found that I prefer to drink coffee a day or two after its been brewed and reheat it. I think it becomes richer and smoother. I use a Chemex with light roast from Portland Roasters (Guatamalan blend), ground medium/medium fine.

Since I like it reheated, I fill a growler and/or empty whiskey bottle with brewed coffee and heat it on the stove or fire in a saucepan. It's ready pretty fast.

If I run out or weight and space are an issue, I've found this stuff is pretty tolerable: https://www.fredmeyer.com/p/simple-truth-organic-instant-coffee/0001111072387

I use the same thing for backpacking, light, mess free, and easy to carry out.

Here’s what I use, not the best coffee, but does the job on the trail.

Usually I prefer breaking out the percolator. On the mornings where I'm feeling lazy I use the $10 electric dripper that I picked up at Target.

I'm pretty hardcore on my coffee choice though. I like the ugly mug flavored blends. :cookiemonster:

Bio Lite french press. The best camp coffee imo.

Lately I have just been brewing a large pot of coffee at home ahead of time. I let it cool then pour into water bottles and throw it in the cooler. Can drink as cold brew or toss it in the Jetboil to warm in up.

I typically use a French Press when I am camping with the truck but for backpacking will use Nescafe 3 in 1 Strong Instant Coffee. No fuss, no muss.
