There are multiple ways of thinking on good vs bad dept.

I can’t remember that last time we had an auto loan.

    @Buck Henry

    You know, that's right!

We refinanced from a 30yr mortgage to a 15 year last Mar/Apr at 2.87% fixed.

That will be one of the obligations for the next 13.5 years.

Paid cash for mine 25 months ago. Best feeling ever during the plague and all. No debt is a great feeling. If I need cash purchasing power I’ll sell some bullion or, gasp, dig into savings.
    Good job OP!
Edit: 57 trips around the sun and 48 more mortgage payments!

I can relate and we are very close to the same age.

Never underestimate the power of compounding interest either.

And don't listen to those saying being in debt is a good thing. It is not no matter what calculations they spout off. You cannot build long term wealth if your paycheck is constantly being sucked away to pay off consumer debt. You are setting yourself up to never have to borrow another dime for the rest of your life. Let that sink in!

Debt free is the way to live! Did somebody mention freedom!!!!

Never anything wrong with paying off a truck. Even when the gurus swoop in to admonish you for it on the chance of a better return they underestimate the freedom and relief of not having that monthly payment.

Money and investments aren't the be-all and end-all for everyone.

Dude paid off his truck and is proud of it. That's awesome.

Wow, excellent! I have not paid any extra on my house yet, but once my wife graduates nursing school (paid in cash) and starts working we will attack it. We also keep an emergency fund which could support us for about 9mos if neither of us worked-something to consider if you haven't already. Congrats on paying off the truck!

that's like saying don't have sex because you might get an STD

if you make good decisions and are patient, you will not lose money

if you take big risks and try to get rich quick, you are more likely to lose money

congrats to OP - being debt free is a great feeling. I do believe you could have made a better return by investing, but if that is not what you feel comfortable doing, do whatever is right for you. no car payment is nice for sure.

I bought mine outright and it still took 3 months to get the title.

I got a piece of paper that claimed I owned it, like a promise of a title.

Then again, it took almost 2 months to get plates so I just chalked that up to TXDOT being TXDOT.

Congrats!! It's always better to own it outright and not have to worry about the bank.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
Mine was received within 2 weeks of the purchase via the mail, paid cash so just had to wait on the dealer to process and DMV to do their thing, title is now safely locked away with my other car title.

Between the wife and I we have (4) vehicles and three titles. The Tundra might take me a while

Absolutely nothing wrong with financing did it for several cars, just prefer not too if possible. Sure is nice to drive off the lot with a brand new truck with no future payments to make!

My point exactly. It is a risk even in your analogy. However, someone dying from an STD might agree with me over your advice…man whore. :D

So…tell me about your portfolio in the last two quarters please.
