So, i think we've answered the OPs original question with various great options. Yhen we just hijacked the post with German shepherd stuff. So, im hijacking further.

Kanes groomer retired. This dog has some specific requirements for his grooming because of alergies. Luke warm water, special shampoo. Any of you wash your shepherd at home yourself? Im afraid i wont be able to dry him enough. Open to suggestions.

Im hesitant to let someone else work on him, ive learned in ky life and with the dog, most people, doctors, etc, DONT listen. Id like to avoid beating someone.

I have English Lab, not a GSD, but I bet she sheds just as much as your kiddos. I made a platform out of 1/2" plywood for the back seat. On top of the wood is a layer of carpet pad. It is covered with indoor/outdoor carpet. To level out the platform, I put a pool noodle in the crease and towels to fill in and protect the seat surfaces. The front of the platform is supported by the 2 removable vertical support posts I made; one for each of the foot wells. A short car leash is attached to the carseat loop behind the seat.

On top of the platform is a hammock-style, waterproof seat cover and a towel. I would not buy an expensive one since my Keiko is still a pup (15 months) and she chews everything. Case in point: while I wasn't looking, she managed to chew a couple of holes in the cover and chewed off a couple of the straps/fasteners that wraps around the headrests. Also, the towel in the third picture is now shredded. I've since added a 2" x 3" wide-angle mirror, clamped to the hanger hook, so I can see what mischief is going on behind me.

That's a ramp I made for her so she wouldn't have to jump into the truck, but I now use it only to keep her from trying to get into the front seats.
    This was not entirely successful.......
Kinda dangerous when this happens driving down the freeway! A polycarbonate screen solved this problem.
These silicon brushes work adequately at picking up hair on most surfaces.
