I just replaced my blower motor resistor and blower fan at my local mechanic while getting an oil change and coolant flush. 137k miles on the truck. The BLR died about 12k miles ago lol, but I remembered that the blower was starting to make the scratching sound.

Just noticed this in mine this morning with the radio, good info. When it gets worse I’ll get the Oem replacement.

When I bought my truck used 5 years ago. That was the first thing I fixed. Definitely buy OEM . I had a aftermarket one at it was noisier than the one that was in there

    is this really worth adjusting
Versus throw in a new one

Just noticed vents stopped moving much air even though wiring looks fine, resistor was replaced, and cabin filter not that old. 3D printed shield on top that still has room to suck air.

leaning towards condemning the blower motor. Pretty common on any other vehicle.

gonna check if RockAuto has genuine brand for less
Or if not, probably online dealer then

My ac blower started vibrating noises. nothing in there. Shopping around, I noticed the OEM from the dealers were same or less costly as the knockoffs. I went with OEM. I knew it would NOT be louder. Rock Auto and others were not really competitive, and didn't offer OEM.

ive read a lot of you guys comments. i had to replace my blower motor last week. mine had a chinese knock off in it. I got a duralast from autozone. its even noisier than the chinese knock off. it blows well. i usually have music screaming in my truck, so, i never know it unless its off with other passangers in the truck

My blower motor I believe has gone out, I checked the fuse, relay and the clutch engages when I turn the ac on but no air coming out, I visually inspected the blower motor resistor looks ok to me but then again I'm not mechanic, so based on the research I've been doing here and YouTube, I'll be replacing both the blower motor and resistor soon.

What happend with mine is the connector pretty much melted and the plug expended on the motor itself. Turn your blower on and wiggle the plug. If your motor kicks on. The motor is junk.

If your plug is melted, you can get the plug and new wire ends at your dealer for not that expensive. @Dm93 did a great write up on the tacoma on how to bulletproof the ac systems on these.

The first link is to help you with diagnosis. The 2nd one is how to install a relay to keep your fan switch from overhearing. I did mine, it's not hard. Just do exactly what he says. After all that, their will be nothing to cause problems again. The reason why the blower motor fails is its because of the resistor. Toyota has a updated part #. I think it's in that link.

This happened on mine. I had to cut off the harness and take the blower to my shop bench to pry apart the melted connection. After cleaning the blower connector male leads, I made a harness with .110 female butt blades. That was about six years ago and the oem blower has not failed since. I had previously replaced the resistor connector. In that situation, fan speed #3 did not work. Looking at the connector you could clearly see one of the pins was burnt. Now, gotta fix the temp display, again.
