I highly doubt that the new tacoma will look like this. If it does... god help us all.

Hardly. I'm going to assume you're younger because the best pickups ever made for sale in the US were the Ford bumpsides from '67-'72. Nothing can beat them for strength, stamina and reliability. How do I know? Because they're still running all over hell's half acre nowadays as in 40+ years later. Chevy made some good years back then as well, but Dodge always have been and always will be shit. Just because they have a good motor with the Cummins doesn't make the rest of the truck worth buying.

I looked into this back when I was buying my 2011. I wanted to see how it laid out compared to my buddy's 2000 Tundra-

    2000 Tundra-

    SR5 Access Cab 4WD

Curb Weight - Automatic (lb.) 4376
Curb Weight - Manual (lb.) 4320
    Wheelbase (in.) 128.30

    Width (in.) 75.20
    Height (in.) 71.50

    Track Rear (in.) 64.90
    Ground Clearance (in.) 11.40

    Length (in.) 76.50
    Width at Wheelwell (in.) 49.30
    Width at Wall (in.) 61.20
    Depth (in.) 16.70

    Steering, Suspension & Brakes

    Turning Diameter (ft.) 44.30

    2011 Tacoma-

    Access Cab V6 4X4

Curb Weight - Manual (lb.) 4045
    Wheelbase (in.) 127.40
    Length (in.) 208.10
    Width (in.) 74.60
    Height (in.) 70.30
    Track Front (in.) 63.00
    Track Rear (in.) 63.40
    Ground Clearance (in.) 9.30

    Cargo Bed Dimensions

    Length (in.) 73.50
    Width at Wheelwell (in.) 41.50
    Width at Wall (in.) 56.70
    Depth (in.) 18.00

    Steering, Suspension & Brakes

    Turning Diameter (ft.) 40.70

The full specs are available at the links. And the 2nd gen Tacoma is very much a mid-sized truck IMO. I remember I had an '86 GMC S-15 when the Dakota came out. Although my truck was larger than the previous mini trucks of the 70's, the Dakota (POS that it was) was definitely more "mid" than my S-15 and closer to the modern Tacoma.

As far as small/mid-sized trucks go, I always wished Subaru would stop dicking the dog and just make a truck for sale here already. No more Brats or Bajas, but an actual truck worth buying.

That's the old BAT concept from several years ago. As far as I know, The big T never did anything with it.

I heard both Chevy and Dodge are going to have mid-size trucks next year or so...and Dodge with a small V-6 Diesel....

Chevy will have Colorado (if they decide to name it that) and RAM will have a 1500 V6 diesel for 2014.

    The better coast
I Think Chevy will keep the Colorado's name and there is a big enough difference, even with the v8 option, between it and the Silverado that there is no competition between the two.

The review of the Tacoma being a bad family truck...I would like to see what those individuals think of the Colorado. I like them ALOT (besides their hideous tail lights) but they are pretty tight inside. The one I test drove felt smaller inside than the civic I have now.

I am interested to see if dodge tries to bring something back. Being dodge it will probably be bigger than the Tacoma :p

You also have the Ford Sporttrac but mot really a truck any longer without a solid rear axle. I had a base model 2004. Good dependable truck. Son drives it now. 160k miles and never uses a drop of oil. Does need head gaskets for external leak. Same power, and mpgs as Tzcoma but with a larger has tank.

Chevy is brining back the smaller Colorado as a 2014 at the end of this year.

    Dodge no longer makes trucks.

Ram (that is the brand name, go bitch to Fiat) will release a Diesel V6 by the end of the year in the "Ram" 1500, a Full-Size truck. This will be a $4,000 or so option and is to compete with the Ford EcoBoost.

Grand Cherokee is rated at 24/28mpg compared to the V8 5.7l's 14/20mpg
    240hp and 420ft/tq

Ford has also announced a new pick up for under 20k or whatever in the near future. Accept it will be FWD based and targeted at urbanites and yuppies that need something for their bicycle shop or whatever in the big-town.

    Think Ford Courier.

Meh, I'm sticking with the Tacoma (as long as it doesn't look like the Hilux)...BUT in all honestly my next vehicle will probably be a full size truck.

I still love the Tacoma though!

Some of those numbers are pretty significant differences. The overall outside measurement is not that different, but a couple of inches is more than it seems.
The Tundra bed is significantly larger than the Tacoma.

I was thinking of interior room though, which isn't listed there.
In the Tacoma, if my commuter cup flips over onto the passenger side floor, I can generally reach over and get it. I also have no trouble reaching across to pop the passenger door open (no power). In the Tundra, the cup stayed there until I was parked. I don't recall trying to reach the door.
Back seat space in the Tundra AC was also significantly larger than the Tacoma AC. 2nd Gen is better than the little jump seats in the Deluxe and 1st Gen, but I wouldn't want to ride back there. I had two adults in the back of my Tundra a few times.

Don't like any new truck sold here besides a 2.7L, 5spd, SR5 4wd Tacoma. I don't have any reason to go out and drop $29k on essentially the identical truck to mine, with less power.

For now im looking at replacing mine with a basic 2.5L Impreza 5dr. Won't miss the truck too badly because I have access to an aluminum trailer with an 8x5 box on it.

I personally think the Tacoma is a good truck I mean it can work and haul people ! the ford ranger looks cool sand the new Colorado will be interesting to see. But Toyota should put the updated 4runner v6 in and a 6 speed auto plus a redesign or the exterior and interior plus a real limited package with real leather
