Today’s project was cleaning and respooling the winch line. I can’t remember doing it before and this winch has been exercised the last 6 years. It’s pulled the black truck and others out of Louisiana swamps, red Texas clay, Utah sand traps, over Moab obstacles, off western Sierra granite and then that big mud hole in Anza-Borrego. Fair to say it was overdue.

Pulled the full length out, unsnarling it as I went. Used two buckets that each had to be filled twice due to all the dirt.

Let it dry in the sun then neatly spooled it back up. Took care of some bare metal from the bumper install while I was in there, I’m out of black paint.

The Factor55 Prolink sticks out a bit too far so ordered a FlatlinkE and new fairlead today. Also sent a message to Treaty Oak Off Road about a replacement winch line as this one likely is done.

After cleaning it didn’t look as bad. Some spots had some damaged strands but nothing catastrophic.

But a new line instantly gives me a 100’ of additional recovery reach.

Only because I’ve met the guy and the shop I worked with in Texas like him and his company.

Southeast Overland uses the same material to make their replacement lines so I’m not worried about inferior products.

Gotcha. I was going to say, that warn line is $300 and still looks solid. Having 200 ft of line is not a bad idea. I did the same and kept my old line for back up. I did have to splice it back together in a spot but it comes with me.

Got the Odyssey box in. Fits perfectly and this big battery looks like it will be perfectly happy in there. FC771102-9083-4E9F-B221-4B13A5ED13FF.jpg
Now that I know where it’s gonna live I need to figure out the cable length for the positive and where the negative needs to run.

Also, used the ignore function for the first time in 8 years and I’m not sure why I’ve waited this long. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. I’ll let dummies be dummies in their stupid little bubble.

Sometimes it’s not worth fighting stupid
On the frame next to the muffler. It’s a sealed 5yr AGM so hopefully won’t require much attention.
And we know that guy is a douche

Analyze what's more important to you. Not all mods are for everyone. I'd rather move the 70# battery to a more appropriate place that will lesson the chance of my core support shredding itself apart and balance the weight out more knowing I won't need to access that battery but every couple of years.

Or you could pay 2 grand for a 30 lb lithium battery with the same CCAs

There's huge benefits with it relocated.
Lower center of gravity. Shifts weight to the passenger side of the vehicle since the fuel tank, driver and battery sit on the drive side, combating the taco lean. Adding an anderson connector and making a jumper cable setup would be ideal to jump or be jump started. A battery disconnect as done on Shanes truck is ideal due to running a longer positive lead.
It also has more room for a dual battery setup in the future.
