TBH when I lived in Santa Cruz, I never remember it being hot. So yeah, just poor placement haha

    Central Valley, yep

Told my wife the other day I'd like for us to get a house out of state in the next 5-10 years.

She's totally in since she'll have her doctorate within the next 3-4 already.

Salinas was like that, cooler actually. Santa Cruz would actually get hotter so I'd always bike ride in the cooler months only.

In my defense, there was more water when I lived there. And you'd have to wait for the marine layer to burn off everyday.

Impressed I was able to use the little M12 to drill through this.

    20221012_120003.jpg

The "catch" pin needed a hole drilled into the bumper so it fully engages.

    20221012_115951.jpg

Just need to clean up a bit more to weld the nut in place but once that's in, the hinge can be tacked in place.

    Speaking of!

I never got your rear bumper design from months ago or your front wing idea :luvya:

Oh yeah, sorry about that, I never turn on my desktop at home anymore and that rear bumper is on it. I'll likely never build it cause I prefer to drive the taco 90% of the time.

Finally made some room; just too lazy to pull the bumper off again :annoyed:

    20221012_122534.jpg

    Keeps getting heavier and heavier.

One of my nice gussets will go in on the inside to support the hinge.

Two on the outside and it'll get boxed in to cover the notch.

Weld the hinge on first and then the nut. That way you don’t have to worry about warping the nut being misaligned. I’d honestly advise against welding the nut in. For me, when it comes to hardware for critical components or something that would be an absolute pain in the dick to replace later, I’d rather keep everything free moving. Not that you’ll be removing the swingout often, but if you ever manage to cross thread that welded nut, you’ll certainly be annoyed that you didn’t plan ahead.

Sounds good and you basically answered my question. I was going to ask if I should just burn the hinge on since the swingout arm gets "centered" after everything else is on anyway.

    Got it tacked in.

    20221012_130359.jpg

Soon afterward I said fuck it and burned it in.

Rather disappointed in my welds, but mainly because I wasn't in the most comfortable position; my fault for refusing to constantly move and flip this thing around.

At least the gusseting is in place, now just need to cut some steel to box it in.

    Right?

It's the cleanup I hate doing afterward. :bananadead:

I sweep everything up before using the shop vac...and trust that it's a ton of metal dust everywhere.

You're in the lead by far for the non-tacos in the calendar, 17 votes so far. It's looking like you'll get a month. Hoping you get in. I enjoyed being in the 2021 calendar.

I reached out to friends in a large TW PM I've been a part of for years (before TW limited the # of partipants allowed in PMs because of that spam incident) and got you 8 votes so far from that PM, plus mine, and lots of folks in this thread. The members in my large PM is what put me over in 2021.

    Oh damn, awesome thanks!

Pretty cool you were an actual part of all that too

Sucks how the one time I rode through it was smooth sailing, until the next go around when I had my spare. Who knew an extra +65lbs hanging from the rear would make such a difference.
