Progress will be had once I get some rectangular tubing

I seriously refuse to buy new steel, with a minimum purchase of 20' on account that I only need 4 1/2' total

I'll never use the remaining 15' and I don't want to pay for it

Nothing wrong with a little deviation and adding 'trips' to the thread.

Had to get away for a little bit, mainly cause I've been missing the snow for some time.

Got up to Tahoe with the wife and dogs only to run into a small issue after the 5hr drive. Well, the issue didn't stem from the 5hrs of driving but instead only after we left the hotel room to grab something to eat.

Coolant spewed out as I smelled a sweet smell, not to mention seeing steam come out, from under the hood.

    20221112_075754.jpg

At first I wasn't sure where it came from but all signs pointed to this small hose shown here, the coolant bypass hose. Thanks to Mud for telling me since I couldn't find it's name even after finding multiple pics with labels on all the hoses except this very one.

    20221112_075825.jpg

Lake Tahoe has a few O'Reilly's, Autozone's, and a Napa but I didn't want to go driving around much with a hose that was stiff as hard plastic, and a clamp that was basically worthless on such a hose.

Well, a member came out (all the way from Reno) with a replacement hose, clamps, and Toyota coolant. Funny story, even though he had messaged me on Mud (offering to help), when we met up in person he stated he saw my build here on TW since he's a member! Didn't get his username but if he sees this, I hope he knows just how huge of a help he was. If you're ever out in the Fresno area, beer is on me!

New hose and clamps, and topped off.

    20221112_112913.jpg

The old hose. Seems like the previous owner had already cut it down too as he probably ran into the same issue but didn't say shit.

    20221112_112935.jpg

Really, the issue isn't the hose but instead the nipple stemming from the radiator which means...I'll need a new radiator :bananadead:

At least the temporary fix held up for the weekend, even got to hang out with a friend I haven't seen in awhile @Tour991

Parking in Lake Tahoe can be a bitch, but not if you've got Mall Crawler in you. :muscleflexing:

    20221112_123434.jpg

The nights weren't as cold as I thought they'd be either; maybe I'm just meant for the cold.

    thumbnail_VideoCapture_20221112-212745.jpg

Made the drive back home safe and sound, with no coolant issues to speak of.

Hey there, glad you were able to make it home without any issues. Here's my stock for now 80.

    Oh shit is that yours?

I love a stock looking LC, man it looks good in white too!

Speaking of making it home, I finally decided to take a moment and order stuff up.

Liland aluminum radiator, OEM belts, OEM radiator cap, OEM clamps and more on the way.

Hopefully when I pull the radiator, I'll be able to get the clearance to finally pull that old leaking power steering hose too. That and finally install my OME steering damper :bananadead:

Of course, I still need to build my bumper but priorities...

    Fuck I'm a procrastinator.

Decided to work on my bumper instead of doing homework :bananadead:

With 20' of 2" x 3" of new steel I figured I'd start using some of it.

    20221211_113311.jpg

Wanted to follow the 18 degree bend I have and match the swingout to the face so here's the first piece.

Getting ready to notch a half moon into it too.

    20221211_113316.jpg

Only had to cut and reshape two different times.

    20221211_114051.jpg

Once satisfied, I welded her up but not before greasing up the bearings and installing the spindle.

    20221211_110816.jpg

    20221211_121919.jpg

    20221211_123322.jpg

You want to install and tighten the spindle because it can change the angle slightly if you run it loose then tighten after.

Now I'm just stuck on the length I want.

I did decide on a single swingout, and I'm *almost* decided to cut it just after the hitch where my square is.

    What say you?

Looking good, Nelson! Nice to see you back at it!

I’d do exactly what you said. Keeps the moment arm on the spindle shorter, and it might keep your spare out of the line of sight of your rear view mirror a bit more too. If it were my Taco, I’d put it on the passenger side to help offset the weight of my big ass, but I’ve never heard of Cruiser Lean, so probably not an issue for you!

    :fistbump:

    Thank you brother!

The majority vote in my poll pushed me to to go single swingout, but doing that makes it easy to go "too long" so I really had to fight myself to keep it as short as possible.

Arm is cut and tacked in place.

Well, happy with the outcome so far.

Next up is figuring out a reinforcement arm and plate under the swingout. Afterward I'll start working up the mount for the tire.

    Fortunately I have those parts.

Recommendation on bolts for holding my spare?

Thinking this is how I'll run my latch.

Since I got a lot to do this week, figured I'd spend an hour or so on this thing.

    Drilled holes for the latch.

    20221212_131413.jpg

That's of course after I gauged the whole thing. Here it is almost ready.

    20221212_134415.jpg

Home Depot didn't have both washers or nylock nuts so on my next run I'll either get some lock washers or both.

    20221212_154554.jpg

I made a fumble, thinking the u-bolt on the latch was long enough. You can see it's at it's farthest reach so...needed to fab up a little block for it.

    20221212_150036.jpg

Probably the worst work I've ever done, in terms of aesthetics. But hey, it's on there and it's strong.

Figure I can cut out little side panels and glue them on to make it look "clean."

    20221212_154452.jpg

    Here it is so far.

    20221212_154424.jpg

The whole setup is loose because I put the hook higher than needed. This way I can utilize the nylock that came with the latch once I install everything for good.

Thinking I'll pull the arm off and all associated hardware and primer it.

After that comes the hard part of reinforcing the wings of the bumper to mount to the frame of my LC. Will have to reinforce the underside where the swingout is too.

    HEY :luvya:

I've got some stuff I didn't post about, but I'll share them now since I might be doing some maintenance tomorrow.

So, after that whole issue with the nipple on the radiator I had ordered an aluminum radiator.

Got some hoses as well not to mention some clamps, belts, and radiator cap.

Hoping to tackle it tomorrow if I can fit most of the LC in the garage; it's supposed to rain like crazy according to @eon_blue . Any rain he gets immediately makes its way to us.
