I mean, I did lift my last one

It's really the whole, not wanting to deal with caster plates, bumpstop drops, sway bar drops, and more just because I raised it a few inches.

That and I figure an 80 series at stock height, can outwheel a lifted 4R, so why not leave it?

Would 1.5 -2 inches really cause that much trouble though? I think it would look great and keep everything in proportion stance -wise. Especially with the bigger tires

FWIW of you're still wondering about 17 rim options I found a set of 5 FJ alloys on CL for pretty cheap

I liked your last 4runner, surprised you sold it

Not so much that it would cause trouble, but there are a few extra inconveniences to deal with.

Then there's the clashing of having smaller tires on a lifted vehicle too.

Thanks; the 4Runner was great but it wasn't as big as I needed, nor was it solid axle

So, because some dumbass contracted COVID, class was cancelled for today and won't resume until Tuesday.

Figured with nothing else to do, I thought I'd diagnose the fucked up stereo situation. For one, if you messed with the FADE and BALANCE features on the headunit, you'd arrive with some interesting results.

FRONT and REAR didn't have any effect on things; going LEFT would result in getting only front passenger sound, and going RIGHT gave me rear driver sound. I was hoping with the limited time before my COVID appointment (made at 10AM) I'd pull the center console and stereo.

Thank you Toyota for making nearly every one of your radio removals as easy as 4 bolts and a tug.

    2.jpg

I was hoping to find something at least half-way promising due to the fact that I've got Kenwood speakers installed both up front and in the rear second row.

    1.jpg

Once the center was removed, I ran into my first obstacle; a bolt in lieu of your standard philips head bolt.

    3.jpg

The fuckery had only began, once I pulled the stereo I was introduced to this.

    4.jpg

    Fuck me.

Normally, one would buy a harness adapter and properly connect said harness wire ends to that of the aftermarket headunit. In this case, the previous owner simply tapped into the factory harness and made a mess of shit.

Seeing now that the speakers weren't being powered by the headunit, I thought I'd take a chance and see what was running in the rear. What lead me to do this was the fact that I found some RCA cables as well as some 'amp turn on' leads.

Low and behold, my own clusterfuck tucked neatly behind the panel.

    5.jpg

On the plus side, it's cool seeing that I've got a 4-channel amp and a self-amplified subwoofer. Not only that, a backboard where the amplifier and subwoofer are bolted into place.

After pulling the nest of wires I was able to figure things out pretty easily. At first, my assumption was a half-assed line converter or something similar after first seeing the RCA's up front.

What is really going on is this -

New speaker wire was run to each of the front 4 speakers and run back towards the 4-channel amp. As for signal, 1 RCA cable was run from the headunit towards the rear to the 4-channel amp, and connected to Y-cables to split the signal to both the front and rear channels. With the exception of the Y-cables, the principal here is correct but the whole job itself was done really fucked up. I also found that some of the wires 'terminals' were loose.

    7.jpg

    6.jpg

I pulled off the Y-cables and decided to simply run one set of RCA's into Line A. I did this because I was able to see that at the very least, the speaker wires were properly labeled for FRONT and REAR as well as LEFT and RIGHT. That and I also disabled the high-pass filter that was left on; figured I could simply adjust from the headunit itself.

Jump back into the rig, I fired up the headunit and was introduced to wonderful sound from my front speakers!

Sure they're small but I'm genuinely surprised at how loud and clear the fronts sound. This is of course all due to the external amplifier, but man it's nice to have. After adjusting crossover points on the fly, I'm finding out that the Alpine subwoofer back there is struggling to keep up with the fronts. I'm sure being an 8" sub in a large vehicle isn't helping.

Now that I've got pictures of everything, I'll have a better idea of what all will need to get done for once I pull the rear seats and shelf/frame.

So, once I decided to get back into the dash I'm thinking I'll buy a replacement climate control bezel (available new), some buttons (to remove faded ones), and run USB plugs in lieu of 12V sockets for the new center shift panel.

I'd like to replace any of the power and/or ground cables that I deem unfit for the subwoofer; this may happen anyway because I'd like to run at least a 10" sub back there.

Would definitely clean up the speaker wiring as well, but also pull each and every door panel to ensure the speakers get wired properly.

I would also like to run another RCA cable from the headunit towards the 4-channel amp so I have a dedicated rear signal supplied to the rear speakers.

More parts ordered, Icon 2.0 front and rears :burp:

Helps finding older sources (that are still applicable) to figure out needed shock lengths.

Crazy to think that even in stock form, these things still net over 8" travel up front and over 10" in the rear.

Really liked how @Speedytech7 LC is stanced so I got the same Dobinsons he's running and just waiting for those to arrive.

I am interested to hear how you like the console and shift console... I really want one still, been pondering on getting them just to stick my stock pieces in storage to keep em fresh.

I'm anxious to open these boxes up don't worry

Will take a ton of pics, but realistically won't install these until maybe Friday or Saturday.

@CS_AR stay tuned, I know you're a Delta VS fan as well.
