You'd think All Pro would have chimed in by now on why their sas kit flat out doesn't work on 2nds gens, yet they keep advertising that it does.

    Works fine
But this kit looks nothing like what I got. Different panhard bracket, bent panhard bar, steering links under the steering arms. And I saw some old pics that have been removed that looks like they either raised the engine or changed the motor mounts.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-all-pro-build-black-betty-solid-axle-swap.395849/

And this is the updated version. Frame plates look great. Finally made for the second gen. Panhard frame bracket is more narrow now. Would also be nice if they pre notched the shock tower...

I'd like to see them build a second gen using the same kit they sent me without modifying it. It would probably end up with 8" of lift and limited bump travel.

Okay, I gotta admit, the steering plate all pro sent that goes on the firewall works pretty well once I figured out what it does (no instructions of course). At first I thought I wouldn't need it because the steering shaft already comes out of the firewall at a pretty nice angle. So out of curiosity, I unbolted the stock one and the bolt pattern lined up, so this part must be 2nd gen specific. I took apart the stock rubber piece and removed the outer seal and the shaft seal. Outer seal needs to be trimmed to fit around the shaft seal, but it all works pretty well. The steering shaft comes out of the fire wall at an even better angle now. I just wish the plate was steel instead of thin aluminum sheet metal. If you over tighten the bolts, it could open up a gap between the bolts.

Almost a straight shot to the steering box.

    I gotta fix the boot...

Great day today! Got a few things done. I was waiting on some hardware from McMaster.
The way I have my transfer case tunnel seal set up, the breather on the twin stick would end up venting inside my cab. Not a good thing cause gear oil smells horrible...
    IMG_2105.jpg
I didn't want to cut a hole and run a vent line through the seal I've worked so hard to engineer, so I decided to plug it with a 1/8 pipe plug and thread sealant.
    IMG_2106.jpg
So now I need a new breather. Luckily there is an extra hole for the shift rail position sensors on the FJ case that will not be used on the taco. So I bought a bolt, machined it down to size, cut a nice face under the head for the crush washer, and drilled and tapped it for a barbed tube fitting.
    IMG_2103.jpg

    IMG_2104.jpg

    IMG_2113.jpg
t case and trans breathers are joined together. The stock breather is on top of the trans, right behind the engine. Not a bad spot, but I'm gonna relocate it to a high spot in the engine bay when my Hollywood ARB breather gets here :D
    IMG_2111.jpg
I also got the button head screws I have been waiting for to secure the twin sticks. I used black silicone adhesive sealant to sandwich the boot between the plates and the rubber boot to the underside of the tunnel.
    IMG_0755.jpg
You can see some bulge in the rubber because the boot is already a tight fit.
    IMG_2109.jpg
I'll let the sealant cure overnight, and I'll start fitting up the shift levers tomorrow. I also got the steel for that today too

    IMG_2110.jpg
Front Range off road T case crossmember is all buttoned up, rear brake lines reconnected. I flushed the t case a little before sealing it up, then filled it while the top was open. Easier to fill from the top opening. I also installed the RST upgraded detent spring for the HI/LO shift rail, and hooked up my shift position sensors so now my 4x4 and Hi/Lo dash lights should work.
Nice to have something totally done! :yay:

The shock towers worked pretty well too other than needing gussets, but the bolts they supplied were too short
    IMG_2114.jpg
Need atleast 3-4 threads protruding. Bolt doesn't even reach the end of the nut with only one washer... I got longer bolts inbound ;)

    Hell yeah! It works!
I got some 3/8"x3/4" chrome moly flat bar, drilled 1/2" hole in both ends. Very nice fit. Drilled and tapped for setscrews, and the plan was just to use the setscrews to help position the arms for welding, but I like the idea of being able to take off the levers in case I need to change the seal or service them. If you cut and weld and bend up the shafts, no way to get that seal on with this type of twin sticks. So where the lever goes into the flat bar will eventually be welded, and the twin stick side will get another setscrew at the ends, and probably mill some flats on the shaft.
The bars clear each other perfectly throughout the range of motion.
    IMG_2119.jpg
Obviously these are too short. I have some 1/2" dia round bar to extended the shafts.
    IMG_2118.jpg
It shifts very solid even with just one set screw on each side.
    IMG_2120.jpg
I love it when a plan comes together

welcome to the club. My 40" tires are like 104lbs each unmounted:eek: plus the weight of 17" steel wheels. Heavy stuff!

$4k in wheels and tires but no custom rear axle to match the front? :luvya:

Steering is a bitch. We went back and forward a few times to get it right. There's hardly any room to set things where you really want them.

    Project looks good man!
