Lol that's why I hate spinners! I also think fighting a fish on a conventional feels more "natural". I get some rash on my casting thumb if I throw heavy weights just because I'm feathering spool when I normally don't need to. All of mine have their brakes and spool tensioner dialed in (finally)

I've been trying to convert Mike over but he hasn't yet. My 3 6500 class Abus:

What is "dialed-in"? Haha. I'm constantly fucking with my freshwater reels. Every time I tie on something new I'll bump it a click here or there. But yeah, I totally made the switch for my bass fishing stuff and keep telling myself I need to switch for the salt.

Damn, so sexy. But the investment of all new rods and reels makes me cringe a little.

So two of my reels have Magnetic brakes than can be adjusted on the fly by the knob on the side. The other knob is for spool tension. I have mine adjusted to the rod they are on. That black reel is on an extra heavy rod (6-12oz) and I throw 8oz on average. So my reel is adjusted so allow for minimal thumb input from myself during a cast, and the brakes and tension do more of the work. My thumb only touches the spool when the bait hits the water and that's really just from habit.

    EDIT:

It's really about getting to know how you like to throw, and getting the equipment you are comfortable with so that it feels right to you.

Yea, that does suck. I've gathered all of mine really over the past 2 years. That red reel has been mine for years but everything else is relatively new to me. I either bought a reel or a rod each spring and fall untill I had the combos I wanted. I have a light tackle rod (red reel, 3-7oz rod), medium (Gunmetal reel, 4-10oz rod), and heavy (black reel, 6-12oz rod)).

Absolutely, whenever these puppy drum start running it'll be a fun few weeks. Then the striper migration is hit or miss, but there's always a chance.
