so toyota called. They cant find the problem yet. I told them keep it until they do.
I also did some research. If they cant fix it- I can go after them under "breach of warranty" which basically happens when your outside your state's lemon law, this is the federal version.

Mine has been doing it since new, 5500 no now. It was each and Speedo but now just tach. It's a moody thing too, I can drive for a week and won't do it then it acts up. Seems to be worse when hot outside. when mine does it I can shut it off n restart and it acts just fine again. I'm waiting on a real fix before taking it in

I would go in when it does it (if your near the dealer when it happens) and show them to have it documented, cover yourself.

Update: dealership couldn’t find issue, so it was escalated and an Toyota engineer was brought in yesterday to run diagnostics on everything from the ECU back, found nothing. So...they are putting in a new combo meter. This one is apparently different than the last (so I’m told). After it’s in, they are going to test it all again.

Maybe they have it this time. When they do I will be getting mine done also. Till then, I'll be standing by.

Meter was replaced. The unit they used "they said" is different that the other one. Before I picked it up, they did some testing to make sure everything was good. So far so good. Only time will tell.

on the up side- they replaced my plexiglass, so thats all fresh and shiny now again!

I would like to know as well. Mine was replaced at 1500.Now I have 12,000 on the truck. Mine only does it when hot outside, started acting up yesterday on the drive home from work. For mine it’s both Speedo and tach. A couple of times the tach was at zero as I’m doing 40 mph.

I also wonder if this has been a problem on any of the 2018 SR models. The ‘18’s SR has the same cluster as the SR5 with the mpg readout I think.

Mine also does it, but primarily when temperatures are warm. Mostly speedo, but I've seen it in the tach as well. I stopped by dealer to show them, but they were "too busy". Got a call from them later, so they have at least noted the problem - will take it back in and demonstrate the next time I'm in the area and it is warm enough for the issue to surface. Not a major problem, but read of one person who would show 25 mph while sitting at a stop light. That would constitute a problem.

its also a problem when you get a speeding ticket because your speedo is reading slow...

Don't new clusters have safety sense screens / alerts ?
If so it's not the same.
