Tell me about it! I have a whole thought process and justification in my head that makes it work for me... :anonymous:

This was the really the only big purchase left for the trailer...everything else is low cost odds and ends.

Truth be told, I'm using 3/4" spacers on my new hubs so my FJ wheels clear the trailer.

Of course, the drum is lug-centric, and the new spacers are hub-centric, so there is an advantage here.

I'm hoping that the -12 offset will eliminate the need for spacers and I'll just be able to swap out the hubs. Wheels and tires for the trailer will be here towards the end of next week (or beginning of following).

Trailer is doing great haven't been able to take any long trips recently, just one nighters. Took the jeep and trailer to a car show last weekend and a jeep show today, it funny to see peoples reactions to it. Most of the jeep crowd didnt even know what the rtt is. haha. I installed a Lock N Roll off road hitch last month and it awesome! The trailer rides so much smoother, also changed the PSI in the 34's on the trailer from 25 to 12 and that helped with the ride too.

Having the rtt closer to the ground is so much better, my dog can climb into the rtt using the ladder. Ordered some suzuki samurai OME leaf springs, going to move the axle forward about 4-6" to balance it better. Also the its a 5 leaf pack so I will take 1-2 out to get the right ride height and get some articulation happening on the trails. I tried to make it to AOP last weekend but I had something come up with work.

Lock N Roll is on my list for when I extend the tongue. I'm interested in how you like the samurai leaf pack too.

My wheels and tires will be here this week and I'll need to either get new hubs or spacer/adapters. If I remember correctly, you swapped the whole axle?

Haven't swapped the axle yet, but I will once I get the trailer suspension dailed in. For now I have a 3" 5 on 4.5" wheel spacer and then a 2" 5 on 4.5" to 5 on 5" adapter so that I could run the wrangler JK wheels on it. The wheels have 6" back spacing so it needed the 5" of spacers on either side to make sure there was a big enough gap between the tire and trailer. What size tire are you going with and what back spacing is your wheel?

FYI no matter what you do (replace hubs or adapters) you will need a 1.5" to 2" (spacer or adapter) to clear the bearing covers IF you plan on running non steelies because most aftermarket or factory wheels don't have a big enough center bore the clear the cap. That's why when I order my new axle I am still going to run the 2" adapters on it (will order new axle in 5 on 4.5").

I ordered the same wheels and tires for the trailer that my truck has...17x9 Level 8 Bully Pro's with -12 offset (I think its like a 4-4.5" BS but unsure) with 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs. I plan on taking the wheels and trailer down to a huge trailer supply store we have down here to see what my options are to get them to fit.

Thanks for the info on still needing spacers and the possibility of the wheels not clearing the cap on the axle. You documenting your trailer build anywhere that I can follow?

I don't have the trailer build anywhere yet but I will have it up on a blog in the next month or so. If you don't plan on ordering new axle just have a local shop widen it to the width you need. I am intentionally ordering my new axle in 5 on 4.5". The first is so that if I get a flat on on of my trailer tires (34x10.50) I can use my spare jeep tire (315 75 16) by simply taking the adapter off the trailer and installing a 1" spacer and putting the jeep spare on that.

Reason #2 which would apply to YOU is that if I were to get 2 flats I could simply use the original trailer wheels and tires. Yes the trailer will be super low to the ground but it will get me to the nearest town to fix the tore sidewall of whatever the reason I couldn't repair the tire with my tire repair kit. The plan is to bolt the original trailer tire to the underside of the trailer. They are so small that they won't get in the way or snag on anything since the trailer has so much better clearance than the tow vehicle.

BTW where do you live in SC? I am in Greenville SC, should probably put that in my info section, haha.

Being able to use my full size spare is why I went with a matching set for the trailer. Putting the original spares underneath is a great idea! Please share your trailers blog when you get it up...

I'm down by Hilton Head...I'm sure we'll catch up with each other eventually since we're not too far away. A trip to the upstate is definitely in order...

This time last year once I knew I wanted a trailer I kept my eye for for 2 used 315 75 16 BFG KO2's but all the ones I came across were either completely done or they wanted retail for them. I came across the 34's and picked them up for $85 each and they were basically new (steer tires on a dually, owner moved up to 37's) and the wheels I got for free basically ($24 each). My Jeep wheels cost me $110 each so I have less in each wheel/tire than one of my jeep wheels. Really wanted to have matching trailer wheels but for the price I can live with mismatched. Next trailer will have matching for sure though.

With this trailer the tongue is super easy to replace. Just bolt in a new one. For clearance issues I went with 2"x2" square tubing instead of the 2x3 so that I have 1" less of metal to possibly get caught on. The Lock N Roll fits perfectly on the 2x2 BE SURE TO GET 1/4" thickness and not 1/8", ask me how I know. Haha

Yeah...I about stroked out when I paid for the matching pair for the trailer. Reminds me what I paid for the set of five for the truck....:frusty:

    I'll go with a 2x2 .25" thick...thanks for the heads up!

Took some quick measurements and I think a 2" 5 lug to 6 lug adapter will let me fit the wheels to the hub and clear the sides of the trailer.

    Placed the order already...:fingerscrossed:

I plan on cutting the fenders off in the next day or two so when the adapters get here the fenders won't be in the way.
