    You definitely need a ground strap. The bed is not grounded so the bed bar is not either. Get a 1" wide ground strap and run it to the frame

    the bed is plastic, there for anything you mount on the inside of it will need a ground to frame.

    youre fine, thats mechanically connected to the frame via body panels, I have check ground potential from that "bed Post" and its a great place actually. Mine is mount to that post

    I was just giving an idea where he could mount it and not have to run a ground.

    Also what is your take on the spring and the tuning? I have heard over a period of a year or so the spring will actually make it so it wont stay tuned?

    I have never ran one or needed it, usually run a 3foot mini whip for brush runs. The spring just adds more to the list of what could go wrong.

    Ok so I dont have a spring. Just a 4' antenna. Ill look into buying a ground strap today. Any suggestions where to buy it? Autozone is right down the street from my house

    Buy the good ground strap, not just a piece of wire. Either hit up Erik (socaltaco65) or pick up a premade one at ham radio outlet. You want the 1" wide strap.
