    I don't really know how to ask this without sounding like an ass, so I'll just ask directly. Which part of that wasn't obvious?

    If you can't manage to not sound like an ass, maybe try not responding? I don't see how your question pertains to anything, but feel free to add something useful to this thread.

    Dometic advertises that the PLB40 will power their fridges for a weekend or longer. One of the functions that comes with the fridge is the ability to freeze things. You would think that if Dometic says the PLB40 can power the fridge for a weekend or longer, then you should expect it to last longer than 20 hours.

    Sometimes the hard questions hurt a little. He was referring to this specific part of your response.

    It probably wasn't mentioned that runtime would be reduced because it's pretty obvious. It's going to draw more power to run as a freezer vs a fridge, therefore reducing the amount of time it can run.

    I understand your compliant. I'm just curious about the confusion since several people have stated the same issue. Dometic, while advertising a weekend or power in a very genetic statement, also provide very specific power requirements for each fridge. I don't really care if you are happy with the product or not. And I'm not here to judge you either way. I just think this is an interesting topic and I like hearing other peoples' views. Try not to be so easily offended.

    Well came here to learn about fridges. Found out the plb40 isn’t the way to go if I intend on running at 0 degrees. Spend a little more upfront and go dual battery. Did I miss anything ?

    fwiw I’m already dual battery with solar

    I stated the issue weeks ago in this very thread, but it came back up again and I responded with my personal experience to someone else that is clearly frustrated with their experience. I still love the fridge and I still think Dometic should be explicit about what customers should expect the PLB40 to do. A blanket statement that it will last a weekend or longer is not accurate. I don't care if you agree with me or not. You can try to troll this thread and act like a douche, that's your prerogative.

    The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
    Knowing what I know now, after going through this, I'd consider myself informed about the numbers regarding amp hours and power consumption. But going into this, those numbers were not obvious to me. I don't think the average person that Dometic markets the PLB40 to (someone who has chosen specifically not to go with a dual battery) is up to snuff on electrical specifications. Being a little more informed about what those numbers mean would not hurt. I think my issue was Dometic's claim of a weekend or longer, without defining what that means. Obviously using half as freezer would cost more power, but to go from a weekend or longer, to less than one night is significant enough in my opinion to warrant some sort of qualifier on Dometic's part. To me it was obvious that using a freezer would consume more power, but I honestly thought that once the internal temperature was reached, it would not use that much to maintain the temperature. So some more education would have benefited me going into this. I am not saying it was or should have been Dometic's job to be the one to educate me, but I do feel purposely left in the dark.
    Exactly how I was feeling. Shame on me for not knowing how to read the specs. I admit that. All of the numbers are there listed for the specs for the 75DZ (although one half of the numbers are in imperial measurements, the other half in metric so it takes some conversion) so I really should have known better, had I been better informed. I just checked the power consumption specs for the 55IM, and there is no distinction in the numbers of if the ice maker is on or off in that test. In that case, I would assume that their numbers are with the ice maker on but it is clear based on your results their numbers are based on having the ice maker off. To me, that is being purposely misleading at best, and false advertising at worst.

    These stats are provided in the Dometic Spec sheets and FAQ's.

    PLB-40: 40Ahr Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Battery, 80% Depth of Discharge (DoD), 2000 cycles

    Cooler Average Hourly Energy Consumption, provided in Dometic/Product Specs/Performance data:
    (Ambient@90F, Internal@39F)

    CFX3 55IM: 1.11Ah/h
    CFX3 75DZ: 1.43Ah/h
    CFX3 95DZ: 1.81Ah/h

    @Dometic, these technical specs are helpful and appreciated, but adding another entry for dual zone or freezer plate coolers would also be helpful, ie. (Ambient@90, Internal-1@39F, Internal-2@5F).

    These stats were gererously provided by @littlefish during his rough tests on a CFX3 75DZ using the PLB-40 battery. I deduced the "littlefish" average Ah/h for the CFX3 75DZ.

    CFX3 75DZ tests (fridge/fridge):

    (1) (Ambient@<80F, Internal-1@37F, Internal-2@37F): 40 hours:: (40Ahr * .8 DoD)/40 hours = 0.8 Ahr/h

    CFX3 75DZ tests (fridge/freezer):

    (2) (Ambient@<80F, Internal-1@37F, Internal-2@0F): 11.9 hours:: (40Ahr * .8)/11.9 hours = 2.69Ahr/h

    (3) (Ambient@<80F, Internal-1@37F, Internal-2@0F, pre-chilled): 13.9 hours:: (40Ahr * .8)/13.9 hours = 2.30Ahr/h

    (4) (Ambient@<80F, Internal-1@37F, Internal-2@5F, pre-chilled): 19 hours:: (40Ahr * .8)/19 hours = 1.68Ahr/h

    Rough conclusion:
    • Pre-chill freezer contents.
    • Dual zone with one side freezer temps consumes ~ two to three times the energy of a dual zone with no freezer on.
    • Reducing the freezer temperature from 5F to 0F is very energy costly.

    Do you have the CFX3 55 IM in stock - and do you have the new CFX3 55Im covers (SKU - 9600026464) or new CFX3 slides avail?
    Thanks!

    @Mobtown Offroad I take it someone purchased the CFX3 55IM cover that was available? It is not visible on the pulldown list for covers on your website. Thanks!

    @Mobtown Offroad when should someone expect an order to ship out after ordering?

    So here’s where I am. One way or another I’m buying another fridge. This time I’m going dometic. I was 100% sold on snomaster until I saw their power draws and actually picked up a 66l. Holy Jesus.

    That being said. I am torn on a unit. Would I like to run a freezer and have ice cream for weekend trips with the kids absolutely. But do I really need a dedicated freezer not really. Would in your opinion be go with the cfx75dz or the cfx100w

    background is family of 5 at most times. I know it would be overkill for just me when I go alone or just me and the wife to have that much space. But that’s why we are selling our 53qrt because it’s just not big enough when we have the kids with us which again is almost always.

    Family of 5, I highly recommend the Dometic 75 Dual Zone. You’d be surprised how quick they fill up for a 2-3 day trip. Damn kids want to bring the entire kitchen.

    Fridges and covers already shipped from us. You should have tracking in your email. If you ordered a slide, you’ll have it any day now. I drop shipped those from Dometic because I didn’t have one here.

    @Mobtown Offroad okay thanks! My order from Sunday says it’s still processing and no tracking so I figured it hasn’t been sent out. #14465
