Sucks man, as you know 2016 is the most problematic. I’m not sure how mechanically inclined you are and maybe you have a buddy or something you spend some time researching the procedure get the tools and tackle it yourself. Also, I would double check with that dealer cause usually there’s some kind of guarantee least for like 30 days or something. Even used car dealers usually offer a month of protection.

I did everything on my 4Runner for 18 years but this is beyond me.....honestly, it's $5k and it's just a band-aid.....it's not a part-upgrade, it's $5k for some sealant that might not even last. I didn't do enough research, mostly looked at recalls and saw there wasn't anything major so I went for the '16.....lesson learned. Will drive it for the summer then prob get rid of it.....

is your truck not under warranty? Just got my timing cover leak fixed no charge.

Your leak looks way less worse than mine was. I’d hold and see how it goes. I went 10k on mine before fixing

out of warranty at 64K.....agreed, the leak (let's call it a "seep") doesn't look too bad and as long as it's not staining the driveway I can deal with it.....I think

Take out the power steering pump bolts and pull the pump away so you have room . Clean the area really well . Wipe with alcohol and let it dry . Then apply gray permatex rtv sealant along the seam . Let it dry and the seep will be gone. There is no pressure there pushing the oil out . It’s just oil splash. Try it you may be pleasantly surprised.

yes, I read about this....the zero-pressure was the deciding factor in me ignoring it......will give this a try, thanks!

Take your time and really clean the area good , this will work, especially if you think about it, the cover is factory sealed with no gasket, so if you seal the outside seam it will stop leaking . Just make sure you let it dry overnight before you start the motor . It’s a great truck by the way don’t let this discourage you . By the way most dealerships when they fix it they don’t remove the motor any more .

Man that sucks. Are these leaks an issue with the V6 & the 2.7 or just the V6?

The leak/seep was there before they sold it to you. They washed it. Too shiny for 2016.

    This is spooky sh*t.
Is there anything one could do to 'prevent' this from happening?

My second gen has had the same leak for about 10 years and 90k miles. I got a couple of quotes to fix it and they were astronomical. If it dripped on the ground I would consider fixing it. Instead, I spray it with some degreaser and hose it every 5k miles when I change the oil.

Hopefully I am luckier with my ‘22.

Oils cheap and pressure was every now and then. You definitely aren't getting a reach around for the price they want.

My Tacoma is the first ride I've owned that I didn't keep a quart of oil stashed in it.

Never needed it in any of the others, but just always kept a quart.

For the coolant pipe……be sure you get the updated piece. You don’t want the factory plastic piece reinstalled
