    Hey guys,
My double cab 2006 tacoma in black has suffered from the bubbling clear coat issue that quickly spreads into thin paint/rust spots. I got the hood and top of the cab painted a year or two ago and had the truck looking cherry. Now, I have a small spot where this is happening again. It's on the drivers side back door on that sort of flat body line where the bottom of the window meets the paint on the door. I was thinking about masking that spot off, sanding it to metal and trying to spray some of the auto parts store paint that matches the paint code, then hitting it with a clear coat. Anyone try this before? Maybe have any tips before I try to make it look better? I really do not want to spend a lot more money in bodywork on a truck with 213k miles but the paint really still looks good everywhere else on it.
    Thanks folks

Have the exact same problem with my 06. Clear coat letting go on the lead edge of the hood and up on the roof and around the doors. Well over 200k on her.

after lots of though and talking with the wife...................can't see it when your driving it. So on we go.

Just curious, around how much was it to fix the paint the first time? My 06 has it bad and was wondering if it is worth it to get repainted based off how much it hurts resale/trade in, looking at getting a new Tacoma at end of the year.

Same issue in the same spots on my black 2012. The Florida sun beats it up. I keep her in the garage now but worried if I pay to fix the current areas if other spots will just do the same thing. Seems like an expensive hassle to keep managing this issue. I've seen other guys on here paint their whole roof or cover it with plasti-Dip

I got a killer deal from a friend who owed me a favor. Did the hood and roof for $600. I had 2 or 3 shops that all quoted me about 2k, which IMO was a lot of money for that work.

I used plasti-dip on a bumper on a sand car I have and I will never use that again on any project.

I’ve been through this clear coat peeling shit before. If you just have the roof or hood painted you will be wasting your $$$. Other parts of the truck will start peeling and your truck will look like crap again. If you wait until parts of it start to show rust then it’s going to be a lot more expensive. Ultimately the only way to deal with the problem is to have the entire truck painted.
I took my truck to Maaco and for$2500 had my entire truck painted including the camper shell with their 2 stage top of the line paint. It’s Barcelona red and looks great. They did a flawless job. . It’s been 10 months and the truck looks like new. A lot of people bad mouth Maaco but almost all get their information second hand, from someone they know or heard about. My neighbor got his truck painted at Maaco 2 months before me. Looks great. It doesn’t make sense to spend $5000 and more at some other paint place on a 15 year old truck.
So either let it continue to peel and rust or have it completely painted. Anything else is a waste of time and money.
Here’s 2 pics of my truck. It needed washing when these were taken but it looks great. The truck is 12 years old41681125-1AAE-459D-9C5D-044A4A64B59E.jpg9814DFE0-E775-468C-B09F-8196334BAC35.jpg
