Last week I put Mickey T's on , after 1000 miles of the Dunlops AT's, WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Currently looking for a deal on Mickey's classic III wheels to match the tires.

I will be the first to say i pay minimal attention to tire PSI, and if the shop rotates the tires.. great. If they didn't per service, i'm none the wiser.

The 5-lugs came with P-rated 215/70R15's. On top of that, i'll admit to over-stuffing the bed with toys for fun on the weekends, and tearing arse for long distances, and those tires mostly lasted ok (picked up few screws/repair plugs along the way) until about 40,000km. Some weird tire wear patterns, one wearing oddly for a period of time due to a suspension pot-hole tweak. By 64,000km, sidewalls were blistering, and deep cracks through the carcass base were migrating around the remaining tread blocks, on two. The odds weren't looking all that good for a continued incident free future, so they got replaced by Goodyear Wrangler AT's on 16" rims - I killed 2 birds with 1 stone on Kijiji.ca in getting a cheap take-off tire/rim package replacement.

Couldn't be happier with the change.

I have 47000 on mine in 1 year and 4mo. So lots of highway driving. The shoulders are worn quite a bit because I take corners too fast but the center of the tread looks good for about 10k more.

Been down this road before! I'm currently on my 3rd set of Dunlops! I got 65k out of both of the first 2 sets.
I drive 95% highway and I LIKE the Dunlops. 140,000 trouble free Dunlop miles so far! For $90 each, you can't beat em!

You make an interesting point regarding the Dunlops on a DC vs AC. I read so many complaints about these tires and I can't understand why! I think they're a decent tire for my 2008 AC V6 SR5 4x4. I'm on my 3rd set . I got 65k out of each prior set. I get no slide, no sidewall problems. I agree it must be the xtra weight of the DC that the Dunlops can't handle. They run fine on my AC even through New England winters.

No complaints here, any tire on a new vehicle is going to be soft, for a nice new quite ride not gonna get a lot of treadlife.
I'm actually on my third set, I am on my 3rd set of new 4runner take offs. My 165k mile trucks always rides so smooth with a fresh set of rubber.

Timing couldn't be better regarding those cheap tires. I just got rid of mine today. I was at about 65% tread with only 13K on them. Bought some TRD aluminum 16" wheels on Craigslist for $150 for all four a few weeks ago and had them hydro dipped in the carbon fiber pattern. I went with BF Goodrich TA KO2. I think they turned out pretty damn good.

Yes! This x100. My truck just floats all over with these tires.

Well, I finally replaced my Dunlops. Just after Christmas I bought a set of TRD OR wheels from another member. I didn't get in a hurry getting them on my truck since I knew I would be replacing the stock tires pretty quickly. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a set of Firestone Destination LEs. Got a great deal from the local Firestone dealer. When I first drove the truck I thought they'd forgotten to balance the tires! It didn't take me long to realize that these tires transmitted every little bump and undulation on the bad road I was driving on. I guess the Dunlops hid a lot of that.

I just had mine replaced with Cooper ST maxx.

After they pulled the Dunlops off, I poked the sidewall with my finger. I was stunned at how thin and flimsy the sidewall were. Like paper. Wouldn't last long off-road at all. Spongy, weak garbage.

Yeah, but I don't off road, so they gave me pretty good service. I still wouldn't have bought them as replacements.

So do the tires just ride rough or are they actually out of balance? Balance needs to go back to the store to get it right, rough ride may be just a poorly designed tire, although you could play with air pressures to maybe find a better ride? Also, are your new tires LT or P rated?

I'd love to contribute to the appreciation, but I didn't keep them on my truck long enough to actually evaluate them. I dumped them about two weeks after buying my truck new in 2009 and threw on my Michelin LTX AT2s. Those are still in service and about to be replaced this spring.

I guess I could say that at least they managed to keep my truck rolling down the road until I put good tires on, LOL.

Hydroplaning in the rain is my biggest gripe, but I've been letting them slip on dry pavement to help speed up there end of days.

No, it turns out the balance is fine. When I hit a newer paved section the ride improved dramatically. One of the things that may account for the difference is the fact that I went from the stock steel wheels with 245/75 to the alloy TRD OR wheels with 265/70. They're P series tires, about 6-7 lbs per tire heavier. I really like the new tires. Very stable and quiet.

So far I can't complain too much about them. I'm almost at 20k miles and have rotated them once at around 10k. I'm seeing a little less wear on the inside but at this point I'm just biding my time till I have to buy new tires. Can't say I'm being easy on them, just considering my limitations.

I got a flat last week and had to lower my stock spare for a midnight changeout. Spare Dunlop Grandtrek only had about 25psi in her but it got me home safely until I could plug my Cooper and remount it. Sure felt odd with that 265/65/17 on the right rear when I took turns.

I've got about 32k on mine. They still probably have enough tread for another 1-2k. Although they will be replaced with Cooper AT3's which are sitting in the garage just waiting.
