I have done this a few times over the years most often with Muscle cars then with Mid-eighties Toyota Celica`s and 4x4`s

Can`t find what I wanted buy what I could find start at the ground and work up much cheaper then paying a inflated price.

Everything is new I know just what I have

I am looking for Another 2000 Tacoma with a Rusted frame at my price to rebuild as a spare.

How dare you sir! How dare you! Take that back!!! What if some Jeepers browse this way!?!

My girl is going on 250K supercharged- These things are amazingly reliable, but the time does have to come. I have a SoCal truck so the frame is not rusted, I have the option of replacing engine and tranny when need be and just keep this going until I'm a geezer. With the lack of any of the manufactures making anything like the 1st gen, I just have to get comfortable with some of the new stuff coming out- Ford is bringing the Ranger back, and rumor has it they are making a Raptor-like variant- that has my attention. But more than likely, I just rebuilt and replace stuff as this isn't my only ride, and its not like your replacing stuff in a lemon way, your fixing things that by design (and if you use the right brand for parts) will last another 200+K again.

I'm guessing you've never heard of a little thing called "tranny cooler". And yes, the chassis can handle 7K lbs, and once you have a tranny cooler and Tundra calipers and rotors, is not a big deal. I towed 6K here in Colorado, and yes I do have to stay in the slow lane when traversing mountains on I-70, but guess what, so does pretty much everyone else who is towing! Try that with a 5 speed Taco. The clutch will be slipping on the first mountain!

I've dated girls from Seffner, and heck "Big Daddy" Garlits is from Seffner. But if I lived in Gibsonton, that would be treated "top secret" like! :anonymous:

Heard of them? I install them. That said I would still never pull 7k with a 1st gen Tacoma, a second gen with the much more powerful 4.0 and A750 tundra tranny isn't even rated for that much. I hope for the sake of others you have good trailer breaks and a full anti sway weight distributing hitch. Also at Colorado altitudes you much really have to rag the poor thing out to even reach 40mph. Never had clutch slippage issues with my truck towing 3500lbs and I sure as shit would never tow over that because I own two vehicles that are much more adequate for heavier loads.

The AW Tranny used in the Taco, is the EXACT same tranny used by Chrysler/Jeep in the XJ Cherokee. Once it has an tranny cooler, that AW tranny is good for 7K lbs. I've done it, and so have others. If you do not want to do it, that is up to you. I've had ZERO problems, approaching that 7K lbs limit, ZERO.

I hope you realize a comparison to a Chrysler product for quality is never a good idea. Haha, but I know what you mean, I work on all manner of 4x4 vehicles. The Aisin Warner trannies are all good. Hell my Cruiser has a A442F bus tranny and that can take a beating. But you have to understand the physics is dangerous in this case. I can make a Honda Fit tow 7k too without over heating the tranny or engine, but that doesn't mean I should, it would be dangerous physically. That's more of why I keep saying it's a bad idea. I'm glad it's worked for you this far, be safe and don't endanger others. Maybe consider something bigger when your Taco decides it's had enough.
