You can buy the ECT always on mod. It’s somewhere here in the threads that someone created

I got the ECT switch from a 4Runner. Plugged it into my 2003 Tacoma 2WD 4 cyl. All that happened was the ECT switch lights up...lol
At least it's pre wired. Just doesn't have the correct trans.

ECT= Electronically Controlled Transmission. I know, doesn’t sound right, like the transmission isn’t electronically controlled without using the button?!

Anyways, my ‘18 auto 4 cyl is very annoying without the ECT on. Seems powerless. Acceleration lag, too much hunting and downshifting. I just bought the “always on” mod from eBay when it wasn’t available here, and I haven’t switched it off since. It’s an entirely different truck with it on. No longer annoying at all.

My guess is with it off, it gives you a higher gas mileage so Toyota can claim the truck gets a certain mileage to help satisfy either their CAFE requirement or satisfy the EPA. You can see this from with it off and say you start off from a stop sign. Before you’re halfway across the cross street, the truck has already shifted into second gear. Third also follows quite closely. So, you’re chugging along in third gear already while still at a slow speed.

ditchies, switchback drls, led lows, minor interior mods, need a cap!
I have an 19 sr as well. ECT does accelerate quick but I do not care for it around town driving, on ramp only. its a bit choppy for the trans, id rather just use S mode and shift the way i want.
