The shop told me the stall speed is different on the E vs. the F and told me it won’t shift correctly. I’ve been running the E torque converter and haven’t had an issue.

No issues here. I did notice the slightly higher stall speed when I was running an F torque converter, but considering I’ve been wheeling with the E’s TC on an E transmission for 5 years with no issues, I don’t think it’ll be a big deal

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Well, here's a pic of what it looked like to cut the ear off the shift rail in the T-case. This was a bit of a pucker moment.

Twin sticks didn't look like they were not going to wo at all.

We made some modifications and there we go.

    Nice!
Any advice for people thinking about taking this project on? I'm rebuilding my front end next weekend, but I think I'll slowly start acquiring parts later this year.

Harder for you since you have an 03/04 truck. Your truck will have the ETCS-I electronic throttle system. Meaning you can only use 2003/2004 Tacoma 5VZ transmissions, or do a valve body or output shaft/tailsection swap.

Nice. All these conversions just keep proving that it's not cheaper to sell our PreRunner trucks to fund a 4WD truck.

    Totally!

There's no way I could have sold my truck and bought a 4x first gen without coming out of pocket more than I did my swap. And I spent quite a bit more than some do on their swaps.

And then...The truck I bought would probably not have already had timing belt, water pump, valve covers, rear main seal, etc, etc already done.

My findings exactly. I searched from Iowa to the west coast and could not touch a factory 4x4 for under 16K. I was amazed at how well by 2wd also maintained price.

Now, when one goes to sell his converted truck i wonder if the conversion will scare off joe common... I hope to never find out.

Thanks for this. I'm about to do the Tundra brake stuff and hadn't even considered how they would work with the TC gussets

Nicely done! Just FYI, if you ever plan on getting 2.5" CO's up front, these inner boots tend to rub on the lower lip of the CO's; just something to be mindful of :D

So looking back now Matt, is there anything you are not 100% satisfied with or would do differently if you had a chance to re-do the conversion?

The ONLY thing I wish I could have done during the swap is do a front locker. But that can still be done any time. I just will have to pull the front diff back out to do it.

The locker would have just been another $1500 that I did not have to spend on this right now.

Everything else is exactly what I wanted.

Man, a front locker would be sweet. I might get a rear locker before I decide to jump in on the 4x4 conversion.

What is ADD? I've seen that acronym a lot, but I'm not sure what it means.
