I agree with what yer sayin'. :D Pretty much said as much myself in the last reply. It really has nothing to do with my original observation though, that 2nd Gens (and 3rds, for that matter) look better with full width axles than 1st Gens do. It's simply a comment on aesthetics, not function. Would I give up my 1st gen in favor of a 2nd just so I could rock full width axles without looking like an open-wheel buggy? Not a chance. ;)

I actually think this looks great. It would look even better with bigger tires.

    Thanks man.

40"s is already pushing it LOL. Not a lot of powa' with the 4cyl to push those tires. I could fit 42"s in there relatively easily, but I am not going that route until my truck becomes a trail rig only :D

And this is somewhat around what ride height will be. This is giving it 4" of uptravel and will be around 24" of frame height on 40s

    Awesome!

Damn, mine was like 27" height when put on its own weight for the first time (which was not bad at all actually). Have a couple of more inches to go down as the rear springs and we play with the coilovers.

Bet you cursed a lot when moving that axle up/down :D Man, my D60 was like 550lbs! what a royal PITA to move that big pig of an axle around.

yea the axle is a real pain in the ass to move around and flex out. I just had to muscle it up and down while trying to raise and lower the jackstand at the same time... fun stuff.

It amazes me how some of these guys can get their frame heights so low. My truck is around 23" to the frame on 35's when others with the same size tires are even lower than that. It's just all in how much time you want to spend changing things a million times to get the most clearance with the front suspension parts haha

    True!

    It is always a compromise:

Gain an extra inch of travel here = change a shit load of stuff over there LOL.

I think everybody is obsessed these days with the idea of who can build the lowest possible rig. Now with more guys cutting the frame off and welding a custom frame with square tubbing things are getting lower and lower, as it allows you to cramp stuff better under there. Personally, with full width axles in a small rig I do not think it's that big of a deal to be a bit taller. Definitely want to be lower with narrow axles.

I had to borrow an engine hoist when I was dealing with the axle. I just couldn't deal with it haha
