Clearly, he's threatened by the quality of Todd's work. He knows Todd does WAY better work than him (going by that nasty-looking crap Todd had to cut off Tim's truck) so he has to try to tear Todd down when someone calls him on it.

Small update is better than no update I guess. Got the ATO shackle flip kit pulled off to be sent to its new owner. No more ghetto spring/shackle setup!

Won't work with 63s but they'll work with oem. Was this the last of the improper build?

Just about. The rear of the truck is the only thing that I haven't touched yet, besides today. But that should change soon

Hoops are tacked up and on. I already know I need to drop the lower mounts about 3/4" to get closer to ideal full compression. I'll be checking clearance for the next couple of days.

Hey Todd this is off topic but, how do you weld plate to cast parts? Like welding those knuckle gussets in, I mean do you pre heat the entire cast part to reduce warping it? I actually thought I saw a picture of you doing that, but I was just curious if that was what you were doing.

I had those totoal chaos gussets welded to my knuckles and I'm pretty sure one of them is warped. I have LR UCAs so my alignment is good, but it still bothers me. Maybe @Timbo89 can chime in as well.

I just did a local preheat, meaning I only preheated the area which I was welding. The preheat temp was 300-400* (I forget, I'd have to look at the tempstik I have) and I welded them in at a pretty high amperage. I then wrapped them in a welding blanket for a slow cool until they were back at ambient temperature.

The best way to combat warping is a good fit-up with no gaps. If you have a gap between the metals, it will shrink after welding, more than it will when there is a tight fitup to which the metals cannot move/contract towards each other. I am not sure how well those gussets fit the spindle, but I would bet that is what caused the warping before any excessive heat.

That makes sense. Well I tried to match them up pretty well, grinded a little here and there as well as I could. Thanks for the input. I was going to take them to this local place and then a buddy at work was like "oh my friend is a welder, he can do it". I guess that's what I get. Haha. I guess they will work for now. :pout:

Gotta be careful with those friends of friends haha. If the alignment is within spec, I wouldn't be concerned with it too much.
