Oh trust me, he was the first one to see them. He then proceeded to asked me every single spec and measurement of the wheels and tires.

    Speaking of...

Have you seen the new TSL SXIIs? They don't have a lot of options in size available yet, but they look insane.:drool::drool: Similar to the older style SXs but the center lugs are grooved and the outer lugs are sipped.

I think the grooves in the center lugs have been cut to be wider in this picture though...

Started the upper link axle bracket today and got that tacked up. Also got the axle temporarily welded to the frame at full bump to prevent movement while I get the panhard bar built.

Hey Todd, got a question for ya (that might display my ignorance, but oh, well...): how come the drag link (?) isn't on top of the steering arm with the tie rod on the bottom, rather than both of them being on the bottom and have all that extra leverage on the steering arm? I've always wondered about that. It seems like it'd be much stronger and more rigid if the heims were as close to the steering arm as possible.

I have them this way to gain more uptravel. Doing it this way as opposed to the way you described got me another 2" of compression. I'll be making everything double sheer like the pic below (which is where I got the idea of this steering setup).

Thanks for 'splainin' it. :hattip: Yeah, with that double shear configuration it seems way less sketchy. :D It sure would be handy though if they made a steering arm with a 2" drop or so. ;)

    everything lol

It's nowhere near complete. I'd say it is at about 15% completed to the point where it would be driveable. That's not including the necessary upgrades to make it even function off road (lockers, gears, hydro-assist, etc...). Tim is about to splurge on some parts with all the holiday sales going on though. I'm really just waiting on a big cold snap... one cold enough to kill off the mosquitos because they are unbearable at all times of the day.

Same axle as the one on this thread - which is a D60 kingpin. Also rolling on 40"s but all wrapped in a smaller package :D

They just look a little cartoony to me. Don't get me wrong, I think 1st Gens, being smaller and lighter, are superior platforms for trail rigs in all other ways. I guess I'm just not a fan of more than half the tire width sticking out from under the fenders. Looks too 'open-wheel' for me. And again, don't get me wrong, if I ever have the means to SAS, and I didn't have any other options (like a hybrid axle), I'd go with full width axles under mine probably before I went with a Toyota straight axle...maybe. Yers is definitely better than some I've seen though.

I hear what you are saying. Some people don't want to have their trucks look like something that came out of a redneck video game LOL

But it's not about looks. It's all about function man. Wait until you wheel a smaller rig with full-width axles and big tires:thumbsup: (if you haven't done so) Full width axles add so much more stability, it's a huge difference. No wonder why rock buggies and Ultra 4 rigs follow that formula. Not that you cannot wheel with a bigger rig with big axles and tires

Also, Having the tires out of the way makes wrenching easier; and anybody that has done a SAS will tell you that building a rig with a straight axle is easier with full width axles. It just creates more room for clearance for steering and suspension components, etc.

More than once I've heard the famous last words:

"I'll never go bigger than 37"s"
"I should have gone with 1ton/full width axles from the beginning".

Make sure you are not one of those guys haha :D ...cause it costs a shit load of money to rebuild things:eek:
