    very true, but i may have to leave in the afternoon which would push my arrival time pretty late.
    i'm debating on whether or not i want to spend the money and get an out-of-state fishing license for WY for a couple days.

    I own a Midland 75 that I use as a loaner (with a mag antenna). Its decent radio but its worthless as a handheld. Its just the nature of the wavelength and its inefficiency on small antennas. I have to say, the Cobra is a nice unit. A friend of mine has this radio and it sounds clear. The cable management is better, too in my opinion. You mount the box in a hidden location, then the unit plugs into one cable when you want to use it. You can power this box by going straight to the battery for less noise. The midland unit uses a cigarette lighter plug which picks up a lot of engine noise, in addition to having more wires all over. It works well as a loaner for that reason, but I think the Cobra is a better unit if you install it well.

    Both radios should put out the same power - about 4 watts, so your ability to be heard depends on your antenna and a good install. I would recommend going with the biggest antenna you can tolerate. the Firestiks work pretty well, and roof mount antennas work even better. Hope this helps..

    I thought about that one. I didn't know how you would install a antenna on the Midland 75 that would hold up to off-road.

    i just need to figure out what days exactly i need the license for

    hmmm..... seeing as how i have to leave the day before anyways i may do some fishing that day if i can.
    i have the midland and am pretty happy with it so far.

    fun fact- the handheld antennae has a short range (maybe 30 yrds)

    I have it. Care it as a spare now. The range if it without a real antenna is pathetic so no real back packing use.

    Any antenna will fit it. It has a
    $38 pl259 USA made PL-259 improved double shielded rg-58u for firestik antenna K-8A 18-foot single cb/ham coax cable
    pl259 connector on it.

    Morriosn will be fine to camp at. Just get a full tank of gas in cody before heading out.

    I have a spare 31x10.5 but it's a 15" rim so won't fit your truck :eek:
