Same with my '09 4Runner. About 14 years. Mainly because the cat leaked and everything had to come apart. I repaired the flanges with some new steel. Good now for many more years. Those flanges are no cause for alarm.

The exhaust has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it’s Toyota .Its untreated steel and it will rust . The salt and brine speeds up the process .

Load it with antiseize - do it every time you're under there changing the oil. Then do it some more.

Good point, my Tacoma had a recall for the converter but it still reused the main pipe flange. My flange was on the way out but another hole rotted in the pipe so I just got it all done and over with

I thought all Tacoma had stainless steel exhaust. My Venza did. I will be looking under mine this coming maintenance to see how bad it is.

^All Toyotas from the past 15 years have stainless exhaust pipes. However, welds compromise the corrosion resistance.

Seems like normal exhaust pipe for my New England area after a few seasons. I undercoat all my vehicles, so everything looks new except the pipes. I usually have to do a full replacement around 8 years from new. It was $300 the last time I did the 2008 4Runner for the second time. It’s not that bad to cut off and bolt a new one on. Aftermarket ones lasts about 3-5 years max.

don't put salt on the road. Don't buy vehicles that have been in salt.

Wash it. Undercoat it. Replace and possibly upgrade if you want, or repair.
Going to need work anyway for better routing to clear a skid.
