Hahahahhhaa - sadly Fear is now better than the original which 100% sucks IMHO! I think it's OK, keeps me entertained.

The "official" investigation into Cas's allegations wasn't started until June (July?) of 2020. Filming for season 5 began on September 23, 2019 and primary filming for the season wrapped on February 21, 2020. So it seems they had it all done with and had to go back to re-shoot/edit things up... That being said, I'm sad to see him go but I like how they did it and it looks like Bull will be his replacement, which I like. He was pretty badass in the books.

 

for anyone that has read the books: is this a series that the books are so much better they should be read, or does the show do the books justice enough to stick with visual media? looking for a new series to read and not sure if I want to jump into this one or pick up something else.

 

Definitely jump into this one. Some of the best Sci-Fi I've ever read. Books have a bit more of the politics and some of the characters are very different show vs. books.
Show is a bit different especially with certain characters and their arcs. However, the authors are producers on the show so I'm fine with any changes.

Only downside is that the eight books go quick once you get sucked in...
Last book is expected in 2021 though, so that's nice.

Haven’t had much time to read lately but I’m at pg 222, close to halfway through the first book.

I’m finding it more enjoyable in terms of character development for Holden and some of the other major characters. Relationships are better explained.

Questions you might have had watching any of the seasons could start to be answered at this point in the book.

An enthusiastic yes if anyone’s on the fence.

 

Ok, finally got caught up. Fiancee hasn't seen it so I had to start all over with season one. Not that I'm complaining, it was definitely worth the rewatch. It was nice picking up those details that I had forgotten or missed.

In earlier episodes, end of S4/beginning of S5, dunno, the shit runs together... Holden described an entity that lived in the space between spaces, or the void. He said he could see it whenever he passed through the ring, and it was angry. My fuzzy beer addled memory says that these creatures/beings/life partners were the ones that battled and destroyed the ancient protomolecule civilization millions of years ago. So the ship getting eaten by them was the signal that they just woke up, and they're grumpy.

Side note, what the hell happened to the actor playing Holden this season? He looks like skinny Jonah Hill after lap band surgery. Gross.

Glaring Example 1 of the difference between the TV Series and the Book: Avasarala doesn’t have a reference or make an appearance until Book 2, Chapter 5.
