    Damn. It kinda sucks.

had my first blowout in decades a few days ago. Puncture that emptied my front tire fast. The gore point was uneven, off camber, etc. that tiny jack is sketchy. I git it done while CHP did the flashy-lights thing; she talked to be about riots and being a LE in today’s climate. She was cool.

if the ground was anymore uneven, I would have been calling AAA. At full extension I had about 1mm of since between my healthy spare tire and the ground.

thinking of carrying a real floor jack in my truck. Make/buy a bracket to hold it on the side. Anyone do this?

btw, my tire was a total loss. A new Cooper. Just driving that tiny distance to safety tire up the insides. Safety Tip. Always have a reputable shop look at the inside if the tire to inspect. My first shop just plugged it from the outside. No bueno. My next fiat would have been more spectacular. I’m glad I had a second shop take a look.

I love the factory bottle jacks, I own 3 made different op rods s that I can chuck into a drill to power them up and down. You just got to know where and how to use them, but they are definitely sketchy.

That said two live in the garage, on the truck I keep the stock one and a hi-lift jack.

Never repair a tire with a hole in the sidewall or shoulder (where tread meets sidewall). Always open the tire to check for the object that punctured the tire, it might still be rattling around in the tire. Back up a plug with a patch on the inside.

A plug is a quickie bandage for on road repair so you can get to a shop. Don't consider a plug alone as permanent.

If you roll on a flat tire for any distance, you have likely compromised the sidewall. Likely will need to replace the tire,

As a motorcycle rider, I'm a bit paranoid about tires and their condition. Doesn't matter if 4 wheels or 2.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
Just need more height? Stop by your local lumber mill or building construction site and check their cut stack for a 6x block (the wider the better......think 6x12 that's a foot long). Put the jack on the block and now not only do you have another half-foot of height, but a much larger base that takes a lot of the sketch out of the OE jack. Plus, the block can turned for an additional 12" of height, and makes for a great step-stool for kids and short SOs, trail seat, emergency long-burning firewood, tire block, campsite leveller, beater block, hood ornament, and conversation piece.
And it doesn't cost a damn thing.
Here in OC, Ganahl Lumber has a cut stack right outside their front door, all free.

this is the usual move..but i had that odd situation where the flat tire put my truck down so low, i had to really shimmy the bottomed out jack under. to use lumber, you need two jacks.
