Figured I'd say hello after following this for the last few weeks.
There was a few others recently dropping in so I figured I'd keep the train going:cheers:

I moved out here 7 years ago from Vermont to Portland, and been loving it here in the PNW ever since. PNW is like Vermont on steroids. Similar, but a lot more to explore.

I do a lot of hiking, some backpacking, LOTS of skiing (mostly @ Meadows), and a lot of camping.
Last year I logged 20 weekends of camping, mostly in Oregon, but some in Washington.
Working M-F, weekend warrior is my game.

Work in the Aerospace manufacturing industry. Used to be a mechanic on the side (father is a mechanic still), until I entered into being a Machinist.
Been machining (manual mills/lathes, CNC vertical and horizontal mills, anywhere from 3-5 axis) for ~10 years. Now I'm a Dept. Manager at the same company for the last 3.

Bought a Tacoma to build into an overlanding camper. Most likely going to get a GFC or Diamondback/iKamper set up, and build my own kitchen pull out drawer with a flat top griddle set up.
Want to do some more off-roading this year, and plan to take trips to Banff and Moab in the next few years with the rig.

You all offer a wealth of information, so thank you in advance for it all.
Looking forward to a meet up one day.
Truck is mostly stock currently, but the build is moving slowly as I'm working on buying a house in the next year.

I saw some people may need the use of a CNC laser, I might be able to help here and there with that.
I don't own the shop but can pull some strings to help occasionally.
Easier for me to make machined parts for people, then sheet metal, as sheet metal is not my Dept.

Anyway, always down for a weekend road trip/off road/forest road excursion. Adding MaxTraxx to the recovery arsenal here. Carry a shovel, tow strap, jumper cables, and gloves/hat currently.

    Cheers,
    Scott

Yay, finished the install! (at least enough so that it works.. got more work to do to put in the fogs and stuff)

Any of you PNW folks here have a set of the USA made Action Trax recovery boards? If so, how do you like them and are they holding up to the abuse that is claimed capable?

They appear to have as good of qualities as the Aussie made Max Trax, only a bit cheaper in price.

This MetalTech bumper is the definition of pure beef. I like the "Baja hoop" on those bumpers, too.

honestly if I were to do it all over again I would pick something different. As sturdy as it feels it’s just a lot of weight between the front and back bumpers And I would get something with a little less presents visually

I think if you stay with Action/Roto/Max you're fine from my TW reading. It becomes a question to me of how often are you going to use/replace them and what kind of mounting/other gear you use or want. I'm also not the smartest person in the room.:notsure:

Can’t speak to action trax but if you’re trying to save on price, my xbulls ($70) haven’t broken yet after 10-15 uses in the snow. Haven’t tested mud yet.

My xbulls are mediocre at best. My buddy gave them to me for helping him install his Ironman lift which came with a free set of ARB boards. I’d be a lot more dissatisfied if I paid money for them.

every time I use them in mud I have to pickup abunch of the plastic traction Nubs that break off.

Are there any benefits between the tube vs the full plate? the tube is a little lighter and clearance to the wheel is higher. I don't know enough outside of I've scratched the hell outa the lower front sides and the SSO solves that and looks good to boot!

ask my wallet about my modifications...
I imagine it'll be sold before you know it... Barely if any 3rd gen caps on CL, FBM or offerup in a while. A long bed topper I'm patiently waiting...

Anyone in Portland planning a do-it-yourself lift installation or ECGS bearing replace anytime soon? I have most of my lift parts and I'm happy to come help for an extra pair of hands and to learn.
Better yet, maybe a "beer-n-pizza" style truck lift group party soon?

Other than it being lighter, and maybe a little more wheel clearance, I don't think there's any other benefits that are objective. I like em both, just personally like the tube style a little more ha
