I’m in the same boat, always juggling kid stuff. I also have to prep, paint & install my sliders. And I eventually get my canopy back on and put my new basket on top.

There’s always so much to do, but by the time the kids are finally asleep my wife and I have no energy to do anything. I need a maid and a nanny, stat!

Lol. Lately I can’t even stay up as late as my kids. And they don’t go to bed that late.

What does the tune do for the truck? Change the fuel mixes and shifting points?

Psssst...adapter plates for my dual case are in, Advanced Adapter reduction housing should be here today, mebbe? I have 4.7 gears on order from Sumo, and 2.28 gears in case I chicken out. Emailed dude to see if he has triple stick kits in stock. Quite, quite stoked.

Does anyone have experience with dual case Tacos? Somewhat concerned of running that 4.7 gear in the front case with the rear case in high, and out here there would be few occasions where double low would be needed (I miss living 2 hours from Moab...), so I would 80% be running low in the front case, high in the rear case, which I believe is a no-no, but then again Marlin sells a shit ton of 4.7 tacobox's (my case is Trail Gear, not trying to claim Marlin status). With the 2.28 in the front case, I can scoot around in normal Taco low like normal, then engage the 2.28 for the filthiness, but then I don't have that ridiculous range anymore, just semi-ridiculous.

This is gonna be so sweet. Can't answer your question, though. Having a "stupid-low" would definitely be useful for the stick shift in big rocks, etc. Sounds like you are putting thought into the best setup for what you'll be doing most of the time. Smart move. What will be the gear reduction with the oem case plus the 2.28 case?.... a 5.86 double low range?

If you want to read about it from the guy who made it check this blog post out. It's for an older version but goes in detail to the type of changes that are made.

    https://vftuner.com/blogs/news/tacoma-1-05-tune-release-information-complete-changelog

There's a lot of info there, but to sum up. It improves the shift points (less gear hunting), smooths the throttle response, reduces acceleration lag, and generally improves the drivability of the truck. There are thousands of post on the forum about it. You can get lost for weeks reading up on it. Most people seem to love it. Some people less so.

There are more than a few videos about it on youtube if you search ovtune.

I've had the OV tune for a few years. I used to keep up with releases, but at some point I was happy overall with performance and kinda left it alone.

That OV tune thread on TW was pretty tough to keep up with. I picked up license for VF tuner too, but haven't used it yet.

My MPG has been trending a bit lower lately so I may reflash at some point too.

Looking forward to a meetup, hope I can make the date that gets chosen.

Curious to know what the benefit of re-flashing the same tune is?

    simple things for now
I should be ready to meet y'all soon. Sick and vacation time re-upped so I can get some weekend days off now. Hopefully get to start prepping/painting the sliders tomorrow and with luck, install on Fri or Sat. Saving now for the tune. Have heard to many things to not at least give it a try.

seems like it would be placebo effect to me. Computer restarts every time you turn your truck on/off. Running the same program re-uploaded shouldn’t change anything.

    1. I probably wouldn't reflash the same tune, not sure yet what has been released since last i flashed, approx 18 months ago

    2. Transmission and ECU have some kind of learning mechanism that some how adapts to driving patterns. Disclaimer: I don't know jack about this.

    3. Maybe all placebo, but I don't care, because I FEEL waaaayyy cooler.

I’m right there with you, hoping to install sliders and front skid this weekend. Just prepped one slider today and I am currently laying down coats of primer in the garage. That prep work is a serious workout, but it’s always the most important part.

Yes, 5.86 for double low with 2.28 gears. 12:1 with 4.7's.

The nitty-gritty: I'm at 48:1 in first gear, low range with 4.88's, that's as low as she goes. With the 2.28 gears I would have 109:1 in double low. With the 4.7's in the crawl box and high in the stock case I'd be at 89:1, double low a fairly ridiculous 225:1.

Still waiting to hear from Trail Gear regarding how bad running just the 4.7 front case with the rear case in high truly is. To be honest, I party want the 4.7's "just because," and the truck will make its way back to the SW eventually and I doubt I'd be upset having that kind of reduction on sandstone. Out here, probably never be in double low. So, logic somewhat points toward the lower 2.28 gears. I get by fine with stock low now, and whenever things got nasty boom, crawl box in low, not constantly worrying about mega stress on the input shaft/coupler/everything, and would save me almost enough to buy the trail gear dual cross-member...

    100%, 1st world, problems.

Advanced Adapter reduction housing arrived today, muy beef. A co-worker gave me an extra driveshaft to use for the front, ready in that regard. Gears should arrive any day, need a triple stick kit and a long weekend. Patience...

hear you on that. Mine has the full tread plate so working around that should be fun lol. But, I highly agree on the better the prep, the better the finish

Long shot, anyone have a drum sander they'd like to get rid of, or maybe rent out for spring/summer?
I've got a couple woodworking projects to bang out.

Looking for a Jet 16/32 or 18/36, or similar.

Quite a few things at this point..
I loooooooooove the OV/VFTune on my truck. Got it a few months ago and couldn't be more pleased. I had a few hiccups getting it dialed in, but that had to do more with switching tire sizes than anything else.

Better shift points, can add a throttle enhancement (THX), and you can gain better MPGs. Fuel mixture is a choice made by you, once you choose a tune with a particular fuel grade, you're stuck with that grade till you can switch the tune to whatever other type of fuel grade
