Congrats man! It’s a dark love affair with these trucks. I recommend reaching out to your credit card companies to raise your spending limits immediately lol

I followed the builds, including yours, on the DIY gfc thread and was tempted, but ordered one of these anyway. Should have it installed in late April.

Gotta pick and choose my DIY projects these days, and SP seemed like they made good design choices. If it doesn't work out, I'm sure I'll do ok on resale.

I do not blame you or anyone who purchases a camper one bit. I'm just playing around, don't mind my nonsense :) I'm also still chasing little issues, it's a never-ending battle with that thing.

I had fun building mine and am glad I did but it definitely made me appreciate why they cost what they do. The amount of labor makes a pre-fabbed GFC look like a screaming deal.

If I hadn’t gotten laid off last August and had 2 months to work on it full time opposed to just weekends I’d probably still be building it.

Just got smashed in a hit and run...... luckily in the city work truck. I was going 20 down a residential road and some street racers came up on me and hit me while they were doing probably 80+ and I was going 20. What a pain in the ass (and back, and shoulders, and head)

I think I’ll be ok. Been in a couple wrecks, but never had someone hit me while I was actually moving at the speed limit.

Waiting to get into urgent care. Now that the shock/adrenaline has worn off things are pretty damn sore. Very much looking forward to a couple Jameson’s tonight

The part I’m most pissed about is I don’t think I’ll be installing my sliders this weekend. I’m still down for the tune though @C41n

I can imagine laying on the ground to get those heavy sliders on the truck sounds terrible right now. No worries if you do decide want to reschedule. I'm always around.

Just found three cv axles for $40, toss two in the truck for spares,
Damn man, hope you're alright. My father's car was totaled the other week parked on the street. Someone doing circle work in the intersection, lost control, plowed straight into it and took off. Cool...

That sucks. I feel like I’m becoming a grumpy old man yelling at these punks to get off the streets. Funny thing is when I was 21 I was super into VW/Audi’s and the Euro car scene, but be easy on me, I lived in Florida for 3 years and I’m pretty sure that effects your brain somehow. Moved back to Bend after 3 years and bought an 04 Taco. I feel like Florida was just a bad dream lol

Ah hell, who doesn't love tuned Euro sportscars? Anyway, this is where I ramble about truck stuff, so in the words of the great philosopher poets Led Zeppelin, ramble on.

Dual case build update: I chickened out and went with 2.28s.

However, this was not without hidden and nefarious future intent. If I decide to SAS her down the road, I'll get a complete RF1A gear driven case and put 4.7's in that, which will switch the output to the passenger side, hopefully straight into an 80-series high pinion front end. But that's my pie-in-the-sky dream. An acquaintance in town is looking to three-link his 1st gen, going to sit back and watch how that goes. I digress.

So far I have the adapters from Trail Gear, a fancy reduction housing from Advanced Adapters, 2.28 23-spline input gear from Sumo, used (good condition) low-speed gear, counter gear, new pocket bearing/low-speed gear bearing, detent ball and spring, hi/low shift rail/fork, extra Tacoma rear driveshaft to shorten for the front shaft. I think that's it.

Still needed, will be acquiring over the next few months realistically - triple-stick kit (because cup holders and less work on the tunnel), crawl box shifter (might have found one at work), dual case cross-member (not sure on this one, might fab a mount extending rearward from the stock cross-member), crawl box mount, funds for driveshaft shortening. It's a whole fricking thing that's for sure, but beats buying it all assembled. Need to do my clutch too, I'll save that for the big install weekend(s).

Frankly, I have a feeling that I'll be hungry for that absurd 230:1 reduction or whatever the 4.7s provide, and despite the naysayers (none of you, mostly LS-powered buggy on 40's people, so, little different perspective) I think that gearing has its place even here in the mossy northwest. I'm still looking forward to seeing what 5.86:1 is like on the trail, pretty sure it's going to kick ass. I'd be thrilled if I didn't have to use my clutch on Firebreak 5 next time, but we'll see. Will move up to 35's as well, which requires tubbing, but I'm game.

Also, scooted to Salem yesterday and scored three 1st gen CV axles for $40, Toyota axles to boot, somewhat literally, they're all in great shape, one torn boot, I'll rebuild all three, carry two for spares, and hit the throttle a little harder I suppose.

Happy weekend everyone, hope you had a great time doing whatever you did whether it was nothing or something bonkers-rad.
