I wish there was a $200 permit/pass available annually that covers absolutely every damn permit/pass required in anywhere in the 50 states.

Maybe even a $200 annual fishing license good for any state. Each state could charge extra for specific fish punch/tag cards as needed.

These permits and fees to use my unimproved public land is getting old!

Too many passes and too much hassle. I agree.

And half the problem is that the permit/pass requirements are not always easily known to be required, or easily attainable on the spot, once you do find out they are required where you are trying to use your public lands.

Don’t give me started on people not knowing fishing regulations and licensing regulations…., :annoyed:

Yep. Hopefully sharing my experience can help someone avoid that situation.

Had to sell my 17 Tacoma for a tow rig in order to pull my new home. Still here for a bit to keep in touch.
I still do some basic fishing. But the agony of the law has pretty much pushed me out of hunting and sporting for the most part. :jerkoff::luvya:

I had a good back and forth email going with one of the directors of the ODFW several years back regarding printed regs.

My question was what is the point other than revenue made from guides and services placing ads in them. The regs were ALWAYS changed, amended, or other even before the season started. The printed reg books were on the stands already the previous December.

Here is where my issue is. I asked him if the paper copy was gospel or the online copy? His answer every time was that is the responsibility of the angler to know the regs for his fishing location. Great, and does this imply that every angler has to have access to the internet to accomplish this? Guess what his answer was.

Yup. it is the responsibility of the angler to know the regs for his fishing location.

Ok, now if the most up to date reg for any body of water is only available online, why print the regs at all if the angler can't use it when he comes across a body of water to fish, and he can't get internet access where he is to see if it matches the damn book for legality.

To make it more confusing, they don't even update the regs online, they have several other pages that are the "updates".

My suggestion to him was to ditch the regs in the printed book, and just provide ads, maps, emergency info, tackle descriptions, fish descriptions, etc.

Then online have one source for ALL of the actual regs. If I am looking at fishing at a given lake or river, I should be able to type that in, along with either GPS coordinates, or other identifying criteria to locate this section of water regs. Now if the reg is up to date it should be black text normal font. If it has been recently changed, it should be black text in bold font. If it is under review of a future change, it should be red text. If it is going to be changed on a certain date, it should be red text in bold font.

Easy peasy! There are some really talented young and old people that could easily maintain the website, and a mirrored phone app so that EVERYTHING is always up to date in one place.

The phone app could have a feature to always look for and updates whenever it has access to service.

Now, there may be a small number of situations where a person was on vacation and came across a body of water on a hike from camp. Say they haven't had service in a week. The app may not have been able to update if the regs for that site were changed quickly. However, if the regs were under review or had a dated change coming it would at least be in red print.

He more or less gave me the finger through email for any if my suggestions.

    We just can't win. :annoyed:

That's fair. It'll probably be a few weeks before I get it on. I'm gonna pull everything apart to clean it up real well and regrease before I mount it. I figure I'll do all the maintenance now so I only have to pull the bumper once.

...not to mention I'm getting married in 2 weeks so free time is pretty nonexistent until afterward.

Shake down trip out to central Oregon. We are getting ready for our 8 day adventure around Hells Canyon and the Snake river. Working out the details on the new projector screen. Movies and Mario kart were a hit around the campground. Need to do another weekend run or two before September. I have to do something to improve the tent mattress on this FSR frame. Im open to any ideas!
Just finished modding and mounting the new FSR awning today. Pics to come.

Gaia on the head unit is a game changer. I was so stoaked when CarPlay did this a few years ago.

Yeah it's been accessible on apple car play for a few years now.

Apparently Android is a real bitch about allowing 3rd party navigation maps other than google maps so that's why it took them so much longer to enable the functionality.
