Anyone interested in meeting up this Saturday AM to run the 4x4 trails at Post Canyon in Hood River?

Planning to drive trails #199, #197, and then Mt Defiance.

I’ll be getting to Hood River around 10:30am and could meet people at the 76 gas station on Cascade Ave (exit 62 off hwy 84)

This was my first time out at Post Canyon, Trail #197 (lower section closest to the reservoir) was way harder than expected. Most of it is very narrow, had to pull the mirrors in quite a bit. Lots of overgrown branches hanging over the trail, lots of rock, no bypasses.
Ended up sawing & moving a fallen tree that was across the trail.

Anyone know if the upper section of #197 (north of the reservoir) is any easier?

Trail #197 is no joke! I took my truck down there solo once before I got sliders. It doesn't look all that challenging until you get into it. I got in and out of the truck a LOT that day, and built a lot of rock bridges:rofl:

Had to sell my 17 Tacoma for a tow rig in order to pull my new home. Still here for a bit to keep in touch.
Im back in the Northwest! Good to be home. Im meeting up with a friend and hitting Browns camp to get some content. Likely to be there the morning of the 26th and pack out on the 27th. Yes, we are going to overnight. Hope to see some people out on the trails.

Sadly, due to illness in my family I had to sell my Tacoma to pay bills. I have no rig to go wheeling in, and likely won't for a couple years. If anyone wants to take over this group and thread please do. Just let me know, and I will have the mods transfer thread ownership to you.

I was chatting with my neighbor about Bennet Pass road, and he mentioned that sometime last year concrete barriers were setup blocking access for full size vehicles. Apparently there is road damage and too many fallen trees that the forest service has decided to close the entire route to vehicles over 50".

Seems to be confirmed by the forest service website as well.

Sadly I think Badger Lake, Bonnie Meadows, & Boulder Creek campsites are no longer reachable with a truck :[

I can believe Bennett Pass Rd through that shelf section(the terrible traverse) finally became too narrow for full size vehicles. I don't believe they are closing road 4860 or 4891 (Grasshopper Rd to Badger Lake or Bonnie Meadow Rd). Road 48 always was the faster choice for getting to and from your listed attractions so don't feel down. Bennett pass route was better for making my passengers squirm. I'll be interested to see what things look like as the snow clears this year. Hopefully they don't gate Bennett pass at the snowpark because there are some cool little side roads before you get to the sketchy sections.
