Yeah no... I've seen a black bear and not a particularly large one say 250#s run 100 yards full speed after a heart shot thru and thru. A 45 or 44 is going to piss the bear off and of course you're going to be the recipient of that anger.

Bears look for food - just don't sleep with any in your tent in bear country. I make it a habit to never eat any food in my tent, ever. Bears have excellent sense of smell, food away from where you sleep is the only way to stay safe. I've seen bears climb in open car windows going for food, they get fairly brissily when hungry too so no stopping them, and once they get comfortable around humans = recipe for disaster.

Hand gun wont save you, just make you "feel" safe and take un-needed chances. Shoot into the air to make noise .. that will work better than shooting AT the bear.

No sarcasm... been camping most of my adult life. Set tent on roof, truck now unusable cept for sleeping in. What if you want to say go fishing with the truck and then back to camp?

It's cool don't get me wrong but I've got a REALLY nice North Face tent when set up is more comfortable than sleeping at home in bed, cost us $500 including air mattress. Can use truck with camp set up. I could see this in use in the desert tho 100%, and/or road tripping easy set up take down drive to next stop and set up tear down.. yeah that would be nice to have.

We camp in Yosemite quite a bit and it's pretty much required that you bury your food in a storage container at least 50ft from your tent and at no time at all is food allowed in tents. Not even a small pack of Gummibears! I have first hand witnessed on many occasions in the Yosemite parking lot in broad daylight bears ripping apart cars with food in them. They don't even pay attention to the people, they just do their damage, get the goods and scram.

Yeah true that - I've seen it too. Bears don't need or even care about a door handle they just rip the door open. Leave the window open and you f'd-up your truck big time. The bear will eat all the food, make a shit hole of your interior and take a piss in there just so he can find the car again next time you come camping.

Oh yeah and if the bear doesn't smell bad enough, the urine will make you puke. Skunks got nothing on bears. That's usually how I know they are around, I can smell them a good ways off.

A lot of difference in a 45 acp and a 44 mag... Your response may be appropriate to one, but not the other....

    JB and Zach,

I"m putting together a Prinsu rack order and plan to run this same setup with the Kukenam ruggedized on the cabrac. How many extra cross bars would you guys recommend that I add to the Prinsu cabrac to run this 180lb. RTT? Thanks for your input.

I put some legitimate road trip miles with the tent on. Definitely increases drag and decreases MPG... No actual issues with it. I keep it off most of the time if I'm not using it. Its a two person job to get it on or off.

How do you get the awning metal rod in the front awning over the hood ? I have a tepui but have it on a bed rack I fabbed up. I can walk on the front bed rail to pop my awning or stand on the kick out of my sliders . Have you given a bed rack a shot ? Probably help with gas milege also . Although I made my rack at almost bed height to make room for the annex so it isn't Exactly aerodynamic but I figure it is a little better than above the cab. Do you have the thicker mattress? I have the stock one and it kinda sucks. Then again I have scoliosis.Nice roof rack I've been eyeing them for after I get a cap front and rear.IMG_0886.jpg

What awning metal rod? Not exactly sure what you're talking about but I put my tent on so it folds out sideways. I've been meaning to have it fold over the hood. I cant do a bed rack because my bed is taken up by the dirtbike. I have the four inch mattress that came with it, that sits on top of the inch-ish thick moisture gap thing. I've had zero issues sleeping in it, but I'm usually about a bottle of vodka deep when I hit the bed. I cant encourage Prinsu enough for the roof and cabrac set up. It looks so amazing with it.
