I was thinking it'd be cool if the tent could unzip or detach from the rails...that'd make it way easier to wash and re-waterproof...

what about the nemo tents from the habitat? ...dunno if you could bypass AT? maybe sweet talk someone...
Seems like the tent is riveted on...which would be a pain to remove and put back on.

    different train of thought...
i'm thinking about put some L-track on the roof and then using this fitting or this one
as mounting points for a DIY rack. Rack would probably just be a couple of aluminum square/rectangle cross bars. simple.
I'm thinking these should be low pro enough for the flippac and relatively light weight enough for the torsion bar.
    Thoughts?

so been reading up on the structural bits of this thing...i'm debating on building a frame on the inside of this thing. It seems a bit flimsy overall.

also, 1st gen guys, any issues with the bed with the flippac on there? I might fab up some bed stiffeners, similar to what the 2nd gen guys run since they've got that poly bed.

    chatty bunch....

    the reason i say this...
    https://expeditionportal.com/forum/...er-your-head-in-three-easy-steps.95187/page-2
looks like there's a long rectangular steel tube down the sides (obvious)...the back above the door is just a piece of plywood...same with another piece at the front.
you could probably tie a frame into those two steel tubes, add a support across the front and back, and add some risers to mount onto the bed rails.
i wonder if this would help with the torsion bar...a stouter base, less flex? more torque into actually opening the lid..,

I have to disagree on the flimsy statement. For a fiberglass shell mine feels quite stout.

    :notsure:

This thread isn't super active compared to others on this forum, so I wouldn't always expect an answer.

Anyway, that might help with some rigidity but I'd agree with @HomerTaco mine seems pretty stout. I feel like might is a bit too stout/rigid so I am seeing a few cracks but I feel like thats due to its inability to flex properly. I was hoping to take the FlipPac off this truck this winter and work on patching some of the fiberglass.

If you do decide to add an additional frame I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

yea yea...y'all had your flippacs for a while....i'm new to it :)

flimsy may be too strong a word, but i've got the crack above the back door and like I said, the bottom of it is sorta bowing out i think because of it.
i do see some other cracks in the lid so also got me slightly 'worried' or at least thinking it could use some added strength.

I do plan on putting an additional flat bar or tube across the back and sealing up those cracks.

Realistically, this is why all of the “new” versions of this type of product are built out of Aluminum. Regardless of maintenance, if you use it it’s going to have some cracks. The key is making sure that they don’t threaten the overall structural integrity of the Flippac.
The fiberglass just isn’t as forgiving to being bounced around on the truck.
Mine has a few hairline cracks visible on the exterior but they are only in the gel coat finish and do not go all the way through the shell of the Flippac.
    Annoying, yes. Compromising, no.

I’m actually very much looking forward to getting mine back on the truck soon.

So looks like I’ve got a bit of an issue with my bed (see pics below). I just noticed it yesterday and it probably happened from wheeling this past Saturday. I’ve thought about picking up some bed stiffeners but never got around to it. So I’ve got a few questions and wondering you all think.

    What I can see now.
    1. It looks like section at the end of the rail cap above the light folded down and out.
    2. The sock bed stiffener - passenger side (not sure what else to call it) has a slight crack.
    3. The I can’t seem to find any other cracks or stress points at the moment.

    What I’m planning on doing.
    1. take a FlipPac and both rail caps off.
    2. Inspect a bit more and look for other cracks/bends.
    3. Try and get the bed side back in shape and hold off on putting the FlipPac back on until I can get some stiffeners.

Sorry for the long post but here are my questions.
    1. The stiffeners are probably needed anyway but will that help stop that already stressed area from bending again?
    2. I need to look up the bed diagrams but can that stock “stiffener” be replaced?

    I’d appreciate some input, thanks!

I don’t see any bed stiffeners in the picture I just see the stock bed & bolts. You really need to get aftermarket stiffeners for either side next to the tail lights. It’s dark and rainy here now but I will take a picture of what I have in my truck for you tomorrow.
Not all the bad stuff there’s that are out there are created equal. You really want to get a sept that goes all the way up to the top bolt, some of them only go halfway up the side of the bed.
