Custom molded dash w/ 10” Xenarc 1020TSV touchscreen
This is as close to plug and play as you are going to get if you are going the car computer route. This dash is posted all over random forums, so I don’t really need to hype it up. The only thing you will need to do (aside from running all the wiring) is swap in your passenger airbag keyswitch (if you have one). I sent the screen in last year to have Xenarc upgrade the internals with the new touchscreen board, other than that, it hasn’t been touched since I put it in the truck 5 years ago. All of the wiring is included, if I can find the remote that came with it, I will throw that in the box as well. Please don’t buy this without a little bit of wiring knowledge, but that is to be expected if you are planning on putting a computer in your truck.

I am really trying to avoid becoming someone’s personal car computer consultant; there is plenty of info on the web. This is a direct replacement for your 05+ Tacoma dash, take the old one out, put this in, start plugging stuff in =)

Keep in mind, you still need a small computer, laptop, something to plug this into. This is just the touchscreen, molded dash, and cables.

Ryan, can you post a link to an example of a computer that would be suitable for such a setup?

presuming you'd run a usb or some other type of expansion to a seperate unit to hook in audio outputs for amps/subs?

Interested, just trying to figure out what all i would need. i'm by no means a computer guy, but i have a knack for picking stuff like this up.

You run a 4 channel amp, or a 5 channel if you have a sub. Then use adapters, so PC > 3.5mm "front" out > M RCA adapter > sub > speaker wiring > speakers. Repeat for rear. Best thing I found was a real good external sound card, I was just turtle beach for while, but same idea. Things you need to be concerned about are heat (this thing can't really run under a seat for a 18hr road trip, I know from experience), and vibration. SSD should fix the vibration issues. They weren't available when I had this in my xrunner so any pothole pretty much meant windows was rebooting.

ok, so it's a pretty simple setup on the hardware front then. sounds like space is the enemy here....

i'll have to do some exploring with the inside of my truck. my current amp would have to be replaced, which is not a biggie, but the current one is already a tight fit. add on top of that, that i have to find a well ventilated location for the CPU, and it starts to get tricky.

did you ever think about water cooling it with a little 12v pump and heat sink? like i said, not a computer guy, but that stuff has to exist, or is easily parted together.

Water cooling adds another layer of complication. I ended up getting a larger case

Then I build a bench out of MDF and turned the space behind the driver (access cab mind you) into a shelf, limiting passengers to driver +2. You also need to keep in mind connectivity for maintenance. WiFi is ok, but nothing like downloaded music, movies, whatever over copper so you need easy access to your ethernet port, or an extension just coiled up somewhere. Again, they make cases to put them under the seat but I would strongly advise against it even using high powered fans.

I think a better option would be go the route a bunch of people on mp3car do, get a laptop and shove it somewhere. No worry about automotive power supplies, or updates to software. Just take the laptop out of the truck to work on it. The monitor needs a USB and a VGA connection back to something. Inverter on a switch for the laptop and problem solved. Not as "fancy" as watching windows boot up when you turn your key, but if I was going to do it again that is 100% the route I would take, too much headache dealing with a PC when a laptop solves the issues and creates only 1, a toggle switch to turn it on.

so pretty much just shove a laptop behing a seat or something, and just use the touchscreen as an external monitor? I already have the factory inverter spliced into and and ac power in the cab. then routing an ethernet cable is no big task. laptop does sound a lot easier. I'm gonna have to call my parents and see if they have any unused laptops sitting around :drevil:

in all honestly, i'd probably just have it running itune's all of the time (or a more automobile friendly music player), but it'd be nice to be able to pop a dvd in, or hop online ocasionally.

    Hello Forum,

I am selling (4) BFG A/T's, 265/75r16 with OEM steel wheels off of my '08 DCSB.
The tires have 17,000 miles & the wheels have 64,000 miles.
I am asking for $600 for the whole package.
    2 tires have 8.5/32's & 2 have 10/32's of even tread left.

I prefer local pick up but I can meet you halfway on taking them to you (within reason).
