I'm

moving into a new apartment and once I'm settled I'm going to start making cider and Mead again

 

Good deal. I've never had mead... It's possible I've made my share of shine though...

Too hot, and too many skeeters right now... winter is the best time.

 

Cider and Mead is easy you just throw stuff in a jar with some yeast and that's it. Eventually I want to try making a beer and maybe try cane sugar rum or shine but it's a whole another level lol.

 

I've made a batch of beer... but it was from one of those "barrel of beer" kits. I wasn't extremely impressed... but it was beer lol

If you ever plan to make shine I HIGHLY suggest using a full copper still. Makes a world of difference in efficiency and taste. 3 piece with thumper is great and you can get them for 2-3 hundred brand new, smaller stills for smaller batches. With sugar shine it's easy to get 160-170 proof on a single run. I've hit 178 on a first pass.

Then cut and flavor to make it drinkable... or power your lawn mower or RC cars with it

 

Also make sure to toss the first 50mL to 200mL, so you get out the methanol

Definitely. Depending on still or batch size you can easily calculate how much to toss out... though I always double the normal amount to toss... better safe than sorry.
