anyone have a co2, oxygen, nitrogen, scuba, etc tank they are looking to get rid of. looking for a high pressure tank to convert into an onboard air setup. found a few tanks of various types on craigs list in the $60 range, but they are all pretty far out of the way.

 

Check with scuba shops. They end up with tanks that have been recalled or won't pass hydro any more, that are only good for scrap. It's not like you are gonna put 3000psi in them like for scuba.

and 90% of the time the tanks are still fine..but since they hold such high pressures any small tiny defect from the test specifications and they wont fill it.

 

would they give it to you, or is it a liability?

see, that's the issue, it needs to hold 3000, or else i might as well just go with a typical compressor and tank on-board air setup.

 

so your wanting to throw 3000 in it so that you dont have to have a compressor on board?

you just wanna run it empty then refill?

 

correct. that's all a powertank is.....difference being, they slap some yellow powdercoat on it and charge you $400-$500 for a tank and regulator. All the non tacoma guys i wheel with up north have pieced together their own setups with used tanks at about half the cost.

once you use a CO2 setup, you can't go back. they spoiled me. brings a tire from 15 lbs to 45 in about 30 seconds. can run lockers, and even high consumption air tools like grinders and impact guns

Thanks for the offer Drew. I did some digging today though, and a scuba tank isn't looking like the way to go anymore unfortunately. you can swap out the valve to work with CO2, but aparently getting them filled after that can be quite challenging. I'll probably just pick up a 20 pound co2 tank from the welding shop.

 

I have a 35lb co2 tank I could let got for cheap, maybe bigger than you need? -$35 :I have been saving it but I get them somewhat often.
