A friend and I a couple weeks ago was playing in an "inactive" clay pit and range patrol drove by and seen us. We both received a $85 ticket and our permit is suspended for 2 years. Was first offense for both. The officer told me who to talk to about appealing the suspension. I've called several times and leave voice mails but haven't received a call back. So, looks like we'll be going to Blackwater for a while.

Yikes. I just moved here last week and didn't realize you needed a permit to go back on the trails. I'll be sure to steer away from the clay pits.

There is. I stopped twice. Once they said he was at lunch. Next time they said he wasn't there. I'm going to keep trying until I actually talk to him.

"Hi I'm here to speak to the man about appealing my ban from the park."

"Oh I'm sorry, he's on vacation and won't be back until next week."

"That's ok, I can wait here for him."

    "...but sir, he's on vacation"

    "I. Can. Wait."

Two years doesn't seem reasonable at all. I go out on the reservation almost every weekend and have heard of people getting suspended for a month or two but not years. I certainly hope I never deal with something like that. Sadly it seems they are closing more and more off every year and the more technical and fun areas are blocked off.

Whoop. Totally missed replying to you lol. I live down in Fort Walton Beach. Thanks for the offer, but I've been tdy the past few weeks down in PCB. I ended up just dropping it off at a shop and having them tear into it and get me a diagnosis. The auto gods had mercy on me I guess. Only one spun bearing somehow. Crank will get machined and they're going to decide whether or not the rod is save able. Kind of funny that they found out that the motor has been opened before and whoever did the job last did a shitty job surfacing the head so they're going to smooth/level it out lol

We got stopped in one of the clay pits a few months ago and only got a ticket and a one month suspension. And there was like 15 of us driving around in it. 2 years seems a little ridiculous. haha It is hunting season right now anyway, I am not sure that I want to be driving around on the Reservation to blackwater for that matter. Are there any other options around here would that lower the risk of getting shot.

You need to get a permit from Jackson Guard or on their website @ https://eglin.isportsman.net

There may be some over towards Crestview/Niceville.. I've been out on the reservation on the west side of 87 since I was a little kid and they have blocked off all areas where you could cross water and now it's foot traffic only. Anyone know of any good primitive camping spots?

I think they have to primitive camping spots marked on the range map. I believe there are 1 or 2 near the river on the west side of 87. Never camped there, just have driven through. I think I also found another cool spot, that looked like a primitive camping east of 87, but not by too much also on the river on the northern border of the range.
