awwwww, I was gonna say more people on our FB page would be able to give you more info lol. there's a public access map from the Jackson Guard to tell you what areas of the ranges are open and closed. I do believe there is one spot close to the beach somewhere on the range, we went and cleaned it up one day.

most of the trails around Eglin are very mild, just stay away from the sugar sand pits (and all pits) and mud holes and you'll be perfectly fine. make sure you have your range pass as well, you can get into some trouble with either a fine or ban from the range. only $20, take a short quiz, and it's good for a year

alright man congrats on the taco! I live in Tallahassee and i do the majority of my wheeling in the Apalachicola national forest. there is endless amounts of trails and camping spots in the forest and I love just driving around and exploring in it. I wheel mostly with a jeep group in town and they always know the best spots to go to in the forest. The Swamp Off Road Park is a sweet location to try all sorts of obstacles from deep mud pits to hill climbs to trail rides. the best thing about the swamp is there are designated trails ranging from easy medium and hard so you aren't forced to do anything crazy unless you want to :D. planning to go with the group soon so i can pull out broken jeeps. check out their website http://www.theswampoffroadpark.com/ its only a two drive from Tallahassee and there is tons of things to do there. But at the end of the day, The Apalachicola national forest has endless amounts of off-roading and camping so i'd dig up a map, grab some buddies, and hit the trails!

PS, they're doing some logging in the Forrest right now and there are some awesome fresh trails out there to explore

Appreciate your reply, Alfuh. Sounds like a long weekend camping on the beach built around a day or so of 'xplorin Elgin would be fun. I hear ya about the pits (loud & clear!) :)

I spent a few minutes taking a first look at the maps of Elgin. If you can, which map reference areas should I focus on?

I've canoed the Blackwater River years ago ( gawd, is it 35!?!) and recall getting pretty deep into the woods with that. Any ideas how the trails might be in the park?

    Again, thanks a lot!

I'll be getting updated maps then. Running around after the skidders can be entertaining. Thanks for the good word.

Was totally unaware of the swampoffroadpark. Chipley ain't that far down the road either.

[I hate autocorrect. I spend more time correcting what it thinks I'm writing then actually getting the word out.]

A long time ago now, I spent the majority of my time pulling my friends out of their problems. A gear transfer case and 15x35x15 swampers were my friend.:D

    Thanks

Don't swim if the flags are red and try not to die from heat exhaustion lol

Red flags I'll heed. Heat exhaustion, no big deal.

Can't count the number of water rescues they get out there during the summer. People don't listen

I can only imagine. It's probably your equivalent of tourist coming to AZ and hiking (specifically Camelback Mountain) in the summer.

This desert rat will follow warnings when it comes to the ocean.

Sorry Johnjaz, just saw this. Was in New Orleans all weekend. I'll probably be swapping out my TB this week at the hobby shop on Tyndall. Lots of good eats here...especially the fresh seafood. Pier Park is where all the locals and 422,000 tourists hang out. Anything on Thomas Drive and front beach road will keep you busy (in traffic) for hours and hours......have fun!!!!

Thanks! We have a fish charter set up for 6 hrs on Tuesday afternoon and the boat is from Darkside Charters. Looking into airboat tours at the moment and anything else that seems appealing.

Staying at the Ocean Ritz and HOLY TRAFFIC!!! The 4 bedroom suite is very nice but the facility is crap. The ladies went to Walmart last night to get groceries and it took them like 3-4 hrs... an hour just to travel back and fourth, a total of about a mile. They got back at 2am. I wished I had taken the effort to bring my pistol through TSA cause now I feel naked. The water is nice as it's unlike the year round cold water of Cali.

Oh wow, you're pretty close to the county pier! Nice! I love that you are doing the fishing charter! I still haven't done one yet and I am NOT happy about that.

I'm excited! The morning charters are booked through the week with all of the places I called. That's what I get for procrastinating. They claim that the afternoons are just as good... we shall see. It's costing us $900 for 6 hours including gear but it'll be just four of us. I'm stoked!
