I don't know... I'm still stuck trying to decide. Which isn't a bad thing since it lets me build up some money for it...

Just some rough numbers, but... (in order of most HP to least)

    LS Swap:
    6.2L ~$3500
    6L80E ~$2200
Tcase ~$500 unless I go Atlas now then $4000
plus another $5000 in all the other shit I will need for the swap...

    Total: $12000 - $15000

Built 1GR (assuming mine is salvagable):
    Bore and sleeve: $2200
Pistons, rods, maybe a crank: $2000-$3000
Some sort of boost down the road: $7000

    Total: $12000 - $13000

    New crate motor:
    Remanned 1GR $2500
    $500 for misc stuff

    Total: $3000

If you want reliable power ls swap

Technically you could the extras much cheaper than you think, you can get the same power out of a 6.0 hell even a 5.3

Id go the route of a write off truck and pulling everything you need

That way you have a wiring harness already ;)

Well, now that I am kind of in your position...I fully understand your struggle of making this decision. After seeing prices of swapping in the same motor it seems stupid to spend the money on something that didn't make you happy before. I am looking at 2-3 grand without labor to replace the 2tr-fe. If I pony up and toss in an extra 3-4 grand I can have the power and reliability I want. I vote LS swap...or a cheaper swap that still has promising power.

My engine likely only has a leaking piston ring. Which mean I can do an overhaul when it's out of the truck and sell it to regain cost. Decisions...

Yep... for me the part that makes the decision the hardest is having to swap the trans and all. If I could reliably bolt my trans to an LS I wouldn't think twice about another 1gr. The problem is I don't think my trans would last long behind an LS... not the 6.2L anyway...

Pretty much stock with some crap welded to it.
how long do you plan to keep your tacoma? 13k seems like a shit load to throw at a somewhat older truck, would u be able to recoup some of the money if it ever came time to sell it?

Indefinitely! I'm way too deep into it now to ever recoup anything... It'll just become some shit like this if I ever trash it bad enough!

I already have another DD and a full size truck plus my wife has her DD. The Taco is literally just a toy. If worse comes to worse you can always move engine and suspension and shit to a new tube frame/chassis.
