    Folding light mount..

This is a piano hinge. 3/16ths by 2.5"(total open width) turned out perfect for sitting on 1" angle iron

    1122ed9abedfc77b9ab7647f99b518b1_5317709789d6102a4b99e5df38f942b7ec3e0739.jpg

Pieces of angle iron to hold it up flat(total of 4 only 2 are on in this pic till light holes are drilled)

    f1217ae61b699cbb6e22c90044095e1b_08e1ec127ec9ff6c543dfba6e3170258c2f1fe7e.jpg

Light holes drilled and lights just tossed on for filament check

    Folded down

Works great! My 6" HID hella 500s now have a slimmer profile then any LED bar :D and are brighter

However it was a bit flimsy for my taste. Just to much give in the hinge as it was really thin. The actual metal on the hinge was probably 1/16". No problem! I grabbed some 1/8" thick 1" strap and clamped it on, drilled the same holes then spot welded it on. MUCH better.

    0677aa31fc64826472562490da4a1d04_c2a6a990737736a3a5a2598d8c5573dedd76cc96.jpg

And that's where I called it a night.

Tomorrow ill put the light hoop on and the flooring of the rack in hopefully if turkey day does take it all out of me ha

I do have a plan for securing the lights in the up and down position..but you'll just have to wait a see..

Yea man! Might be a while as we got snow last night. But knowing WY It'll be gone tomorrow haha however..I hate at break it to you..but I know that the spindle is like mounting kinda on the inside of the bumper..so either you'll have to take it off or not do it haha

But I'll also look through my shots I have now of the inside of it.

Its cool whenever man im in no rush its just a planning thing... i was thinking of drilling a hole through the top go straight down through and drop the spindle in the hole and weld it to everything... I figure i would take it off to do it but I wanted to see how much trouble it would be first

    Ahh another nice day..

    47391e67638989b613d688ae265872d2_1ff8b86dbc24095df04dc72dcc642796235938e0.jpg

Made my hold downs for the hinge today. Not perfect but it works pretty well

I used 1.5" angle I had left to make these

    f2c8df6a7db5a8743ee15b426ab81c21_6fefcffff072778d66e1df55ed74289e54e548f7.jpg

    Welded on

    b144551153bf0892adb757718398f441_042b2f489e91053d4f85e0eae7126bdcdd629b36.jpg

    Cut notches in the hinge

    452d58f3457d0559d6fc8505555c72c0_221c9eaa3fcd169d41f7c7dcb3525ec21989a11e.jpg
    8eb76d0357055363286382c21f86dcc2_6b0d577f6145c21f3c5595ac9e4e48c0a75cfc23.jpg

Then just a wing nut and washer. Gotta go get a lock nut too..

    9a4e48a46977dacc8967dd109d812753_62c99fdfcf90c5a43fe22eca817c5f9041059c63.jpg
    ccff05195928c05d351898b1d7e7dacf_6389c750ca3a57e71541463dab6cb5297ea92bd4.jpg

Works pretty well. One on each end. Yes the wing nuts are too large to go on the bolts when the lights are down. But really the only time they will be down is for hwy driving. So I'm not super worried yet. Plus hinge is pretty stiff now.

And now to rest of the rack.

Put the other beams in. Nice and flat

    0d194a362dc676e79f28595cdea9d161_10f839f286a07abc0941106187ae0f0ec47f7425.jpg

And now I have to get the mesh off my old one to put on hopefully. And then fab up the light hoop and it'll be ready for paint then pre wiring.

    Oh..and classic wy sunset..

    LOL I'm even closer. :D

Blackdawg, LOVE the LEDs in the mirrors! Reminds me of the FJs, that light idea has always been something I've wanted to try on my truck, but I always thought it wouldn't work. Now you've gone and done it! :D

Also, the fold down for the Hellas is pretty awesome!
