I dont like the shackles peeking out below the rear quarter...and to me it seems like they flatten out the leafs.

Plus, I only want about 3'' of lift, and a nice stiff ride for when I haul my dirtbike, and the 5 pack with an AAL is the best way to get that...I think

What's the reason for adding a breaker between the batteries and alternator?

I've seen it done on boats, but I have no idea why...

Mostly for wire reasons. 150amps through 4 ga is okay but anything more and it'll cause issues.

And if the wire some how gets fraided or pops off the battery or somthing and starts contacting something this will pop and stop transfer of power from the alternator to anything past it.

better then a fuse as 150a fuses are pricey and you have to carry extras. This you just let cool and pop back on.

Im not counting on that ever happening but who does?

What is the peak output of the new alternator?

What's the charging amp draw for if you're charging both batteries and there is a heavy load on both batteries, i.e; winching at night with a bunch of your lights on?

peak should be 140amps. But its nice to have some head room.

charging wise im not sure. Haven't hooked it all up.

But that won't change the output of the alternator. It can only generate so much. it around 100-110amps at idle should that will be very nice.

Winches pull around 200amps constant but can spike as high as 470 or more. Thats why my isolation relay is a 500amp constant/700 spike relay. It'll handle winching no problem.

The lights with them all on draw about 54 amps or so. asumming i have a fridge that'll be 10amps id guess constant and the stereo is another 10-400 depending on how loud it is  it'll never get to draw 400 again though. I like my ears too much.

but id say i have about 70amps worth of acessories if they are all on and in use(Cb radio too and phone chargin or other)

Great build and super informative! I'm interested in your alternator swap as I plan on doing the same this spring.

Could you use 2 gauge wire instead? I presume that without a fuse, that the 4 gauge would melt on an amp spike?

THanks! What its here for :)

Yea you could. But its still safer to have a fuse or something in case some other wire contacts ground through various ways. Its a good protection to have for only 30 bucks.

Hey Monte I had some questions and hope you can help me out!

How much room do you have between your bed and the bottom of your rack? Is it adequate space to pack supplies? What is the longest trip you were able to make with supplies packed?

Haven't had a trip where I didn't have enough. Longest trip I've been on strait is a week. Should have a 1.5 week trip this summer. But I have lots of room.

The bottom of my rack bars are 14" from the bed rail. S I have lots of room to stack stuff which I haven't had to do yet. All my trips have been well below the bed rail for supplies and gear.

    Looking at getting littlebro5s rack??

yes, but my concern was that I wouldn't be able to stack if necessary and fitting equipment under the rails.

I really want to take a trip to yellowstone with a CVT but I want to make sure we can pack sufficient supplies without trouble.

Well his is tad taller then mine I think. You should be fine.

Only thing about his is the rack rails that run parallel to the bed rail is on the out side of the rack where as mine are in board a bit allowing for better access. And his roof rack is way smaller then mine

But I'd think you would be fun to stack up plenty if stuff. It's a nice rack. But if you don't love it and have your own idea for something then pay for your own.

But it's still a nice rack.

Lost me. And ya I kinda think I want a roof rack with some light options, I also really like your inbetween rack.

Sounds good! I am very pleased that CVT deals out of bend here! :D

    Lol

See how my rails that run up and down in this pic are more towards the center?

This helps get into the bed. Other then where the RTT sits cause it's as wide as the top of the rack haha

As fr lights an LED bar would fit up there nicely..not my first choice of roof mounted light..

But yea if you have your own idea. I'd say build it yourself..or have someone build it for you.

And CVT FTW man. Love mine.

yours is just a bunch of straight square welded and cut at angles right?
I really need a welder and place to weld so I could practice, I wouldn't mind making my own.

Yea just square tubing man 1.5". It takes more welding and grinding then tubing and bending. But I kinda dig the look.

I think you'll still have plenty of room for gear for that kind of trip. My bedrack is lower than Monty's and I had plenty of room for gear for myself and a buddy for a week long trip under the rack and tent. Even had 5 fuel cans in the bed and my bed is a foot shorter than yours.

    Exactly. Agree completely with Adam.

Plus if you extended cab is open you have a nice place for stuff to always stay dry.

So it's gonna be at least until April before I mess with my exhaust, but after hearing the video of your magnaflow it makes me want one! I can't decide between an electric cutout or a magnaflow.
I'll be making at least 4-5 long road trips within a year from now, so I'm not sure whether just having an aftermarket muffler would be versus an electric cutout so I can have loud and obnoxious when I want but still be able to switch to stock on road trips.
I had a Flowmaster 40 dumped on my 96 2.7 and I liked the sound, but on long trips or when I took my girlfriend on a date it got annoying! Haha
