How longs is the front skid going to be. Will it cover the steering rack?

 

So started the alternator swap. Need new belts and a few other things. Plus I couldn't seem to make anything work at all tonight. So called it quits early.

Here is the GM harnness.



Since how the wiring works. I don't need the furthest wire




Since I am planning on keeping my spare in the truck with the OSK. I am wiring up a plug to the stock harness. I'm using trailer plugs. They are 4 wire but only need 3



This one is for the new GM since I'm just ting the sense wire strait to the alternator

then my dad found some aluminum that fit perfect after some filing.



Also removed my skids to get to bolts to take off the belts. Can't wait to have new ones!

 

Front skid will go all the way to the tcas crossmember.

 

whats the output of the gm alt???

 

That is a little further that mine. The is a bracket that mounts to where the steering rack mounts and the rear of the front skill mounts to it. The end of the piece goes another 4"

 

140-50 peak.

110 at idle

 

Right. Then you have another that covers the tranny right?

 

Yeah, the belly pan runs from just past the steering rack to about 6-8" past the tcase.



Does the stock harness just plug into this?

 

Yes. I had to solder in the other half of the trailer plug to it though.

 

Ha, goes farther than I thought. Well past the tcasr

 

Yea it's 38" or so. I measure for plastic. 24" or so wide.

 

Monty, jumping way back to when you were wiring everything and you used diodes in your switch block, which diodes did you use and where did you get them?

 

Yea nothing special. Just radio shack. Used the biggest one we could find with the lowest voltage drop. Really almost any will work. The current flowing through the ground and switch side if the relay is very small.




On another note today...old truck..is officially dead..haul the old body to a recycling center

Shit, don't make it sound so sad...

 

Wasn't that sad..haha cause I still have a nice truck. Was a bit..but over it fast. Watching the magnetic cranes was fun haha
