    a crawl box is all about control. while rock crawling specifically. 4 lo and lo is still to high manual and autos for some types of wheeling. brake gas brake gas to get over stuff, then it becomes all jerky and you bounce around. with a crawl box, its just gas gas gas over and done.

    and you keep repeating yourself. a manual trans is not more fun it you are doing technical slow wheeling. because its just a pain to deal with the clutch. yota 5 speed is NOT an obvious winner for every situation. Could be more fun say with a LT truck where speed is your friend. Do you enjoy driving your manual in stop and go city traffic? Probably not. Thats what its like off roading.

    If i need to go slower (rock crawling) then 4 lo is geared for it's probably to slow for me to enjoy it anyway.

    i didn't know that, definitely worth knowing.

    And I have both..right now haha and my first Toyota was an auto 86 truck.

    They both have their place. Autos do make life easier in a lot of ways. But as a car enthusiast..manuals are the way to go. It makes everything more fun. Including offroading.

    I know!! Lockers first and gears..then crawl box.

    I agree. Manuals are more stout and reliable too

    For what and how my truck is used for the auto it great. Don't plan on getting a crawlbox anyways either. And actually, every new vehicle I've ridden/driven in has the option to manually shift through all of the gears.

    Everything I have done offroad so far I much pretty my auto, even in the dunes. My auto does well at choosing a gear and shifts fast enough to not be a concern. If I want it to downshift I just shift the gears as I see fit. Usually I just pull it down into 3rd or so if I have problems with it shifting into 4th and 4th not having enough torque to keep up speed, but that isn't much of a concern in 4Lo with my 4.88's unless I am trying to do donuts or steep hill climbs.

    I still don't see how autos drive me... haha the only time they do is when I let them and that is usually out of convenience, like stop and go traffic and such.

    They are both nice.

    And I disagree that it shift fast. My dads sucks. It shifts so slow. He could know 3-4 seconds off his 0-90 time with a manual just from how long the tranny takes to shift. With the IPT mod it's better.

    And even when you put it down to 3rd I've found it doesn't always stay there..

    But who cares. It's still a tacoma and it still moves.
