    monte youre going to do the gears yourself? nice! wouldnt recommend doing it alone for the first time...but hey! good luck. Just takes time.

    easiest way to get the solid spacer close is to take out the crush sleeve, and get your caliper and measure the height of that, then measure the spacer and add shims to get it as close as you can then feel out the drag from there and start messing with the smallest shims to fine tune it.

    hmm. i could just go down stairs and look at my diff...does the 8.4 use the spanner like the 8" does? or do you have to use shims to align it? or do you not know haha

    your pinion depth is shims of course...let me go look at my 8.4.

    if you can see, here is my 8"

    that silver wheel (and an adjuster on the other side) is what we used to align it. those would set the tension/depth of the ring. we used a ghetto made spanner wrench to tighten or loosen that wheel.

    yup the 8.4 is deffanitely not like the 8". so it looks like youre right. it is shims

    actually, nope. the ring gears are both the same, 8"

    yours just doesent have a locker

    The extra strength of this diff comes from the bearing cap/truss and large diameter pinion gear shaft

    Yes..actually..it is.

    Add an ARB..definitely stronger.

    its not different though

    thats the funny part

    we had two right next to each other, they were both 8"

    ok what exactly does that do? Because when a rear goes it shreds ring teeth or spider gears. neither of which are prevented from having that truss

    the actual ARB locker mechanism is tougher than the e locker. but as for the rest of it...im not convinced its even slightly noticeably stronger

    Haha yeah, only the e-locker versus non is the difference in that aspect.

    Found this out after looking into the 8" versus the 8.4" gears that are in fact 8" as well. They're just called 8.4" because that's the axle they go in.

    exactly haha. so like monte said, only difference is the truss, but that wont save you from grenading the rear. sooooo really i see no real difference.
