Meh. I love slapping through the gears when I get off my 10 hour shift.

To each and his own. I have both literally and like them both.

He is just catching up haha

In a way..this is his build thread too haha

 

I'm actually doing it backwards. haha My DD car is a manual and my weekend warrior is an auto. I like it that way. The manual makes the car fun to drive around on the street and I don't see a whole lot of stop and go traffic anyway, at least not like someone in SLC or some other big city would see. And the auto has it's advantages in the rocks and out in the dunes I just throw it in 2nd gear and focus on driving so I can keep both hands on the wheel more often.

 

I was just reading through the thread and found it, I don't really pay attention to the dates.

I'm married and have a kid of my own on the way so I don't consider myself a kid anymore if that make sense.

Very fun build to read through! Good stuff. I was in a Colorado in the middle of September for a couple days and met Joey (Tonto27) and we did Bill Moore Lake Trail. He told me about your guys epic trip. Very cool stuff. I think I'm gonna make another bed rack for my truck with the square tube like yours pretty soon. Is it super heavy?

Back on topic, but I just think it's ignorant and irrelevant to say that driving a manual makes you a better driver and that driving an auto is for lazy people and they are more likely to crash from not paying attention. The transmission of the car has nothing to do with the abilities of the driver. I've been around both shitty drivers with manuals and awesome drivers with autos. It can go either way.

 

I think driving a manual transmission car for extended time gives an appreciation for what the vehicle is doing. Does that make you a better driver? I think so. It certainly can't hurt. And as anyone who has owned a manual knows, all of the dumb distracting shit you do in an auto, you will do in a manual too once you get the hang of it... So that is not a good argument

Also people that tend to gravitate towards manuals in the US, with automatic being so easy to get, are probably more detailed and mechanically inclined to begin with. Just an observation. I don't know why this topic bugs you so much though

I tell you what, It is a hell of a lot easier to eat my cheese burger and fries in my Tacoma than it is my car Though I have got pretty good at shifting with my forearm, and being able to use my left knee to steer the car while simultaneously pressing in the clutch. haha

My bed rack is pretty heavy Id say with the roof rack. I can lift it up and walk with it myself but I'd say it over 150lbs easy. but it works great haha and was damn near a roll cage when I rolled it haha

For sure thanks for the info. I am going to draw up a few things and figure out what I'm going to do. I currently have one that I made of one inch round tubing. It works well but I don't really like the look of it haha. Kinda want to build a better one and I like the square tube design.
