    ...too much shit to list.
I like Alcan's. The leaf I added to my 50T is actually an Alcan spring from a local spring shop. I've heard good things about Alcan as well. Whiteboy has them on his truck and when I helped him with his valving, they looked very good fit and finish (better than my 50T's to be honest).

As far "overextending" the shocks...you can't. There's nothing that allows it to overextend, but you can have a shock be a travel limiter...and the answer is it depends. Ruining a shock isn't necessarily the end result. It depends on driving style. In the shock itself, there's a seal cap that is held in place with a c-clip and the seal cap butts up against a screw in wiper cap. Under hard rebound (in other words shock extends really fast in spirited offroading) the shaft spacer will bang into the seal cap. This can damage the seal cap after repeated hits. With crawling and slow shaft speed articulation, it's really a non-issue as it's slow. Shocks are used as limiters all the time. But when you're planning on spending 1300 in shocks...limit straps are cheap insurance.

That's what I thought... but it appears that since you gain more droop with a 12" shock then that means that your shocks were overextending the whole time...

    Edit: ok I see.

Depends on how my you are willing to spend/how much work you want to put it. The simple route would be bolting in Dakars (if you don't want Allpros).

If you want something more crawler oriented and can be done rather cheaply though is a lot more work, is the Chevy 63 swap. I don't know how well that would do for the go fast stuff, but I'm sure it's possible. You'll end up doing a shackle flip for that, but the 63's can handle that.
    f303944ac419ffeee0c8bfa80e73a806_3ddd2a2a821ed1482cc61b85f078ce99f198e6ee.jpg

Or the costly method is the DMZ SUA kit. It uses an inverted shackle still and will be a better go fast option than the 63's. I can't drop my 33's below the sliders, but I can sure tuck them.

Wait what?? Yes you gain more droop cause you have a longer shock..

That doesn't mean it'll be limiting your droop though. Plenty of other factors in play.

And I still vote Alcan leafs

I think he meant the stock location shocks are limiting droop since going to 12's will increase your droop:notsure:

Oh. No 12s in stock location would limit your up travel. Not your droop. You'd be using the the shocks as bump stops which kills shocks much faster then using them as limit straps..lol

I should have clarified a little better. Going from shocks in stock location to 12's via the BAMF or Pelfrey relocation kit. I believe that is what he is looking to upgrade to which is why he mentioned the 12's.

Those kits won't limt the droop much though.

Look at how well Tyler's rig flexes with them.

Hes just saying stock shocks/stock location is whats limiting. Not upgrade shocks/relocate

I too agree uptravel is underrated... Everyone be riding on them bump stops... I see so many people 1-2" or even less uptravel... Gotta have some uptravel at least. Even if you are crawling, we don't go 2 mph everywhere, there is hundreds of miles of trail travel sometimes.

Here is aftermarket leafs and similar stock location shocks and 8" shackles...

Here is chevy 63s with better shock location and 6" shackles

Nooo what I was saying is with the stock shock mounts, you will be limiting your droop (overextending your shocks) unless you get a 12" shock and relocate the upper shock mount. That seems bad. But I guess at slow speeds it's not.

Also - I honestly know nothing about 63 chevy leafs.

And - After reading alcans website I'm considering them. Any idea what I'm looking at for the bill? Ballpark figure?

Not trying to step on toes.... But Tyler is running the ATO Shackle flip, he had it then removed it at some time and is running it again. He has the XJ 5" shackles to run with it and the expos. Was out wheeling a few weeks ago with him and his droop is crazy. Perfect pairing with his shock relocation and the shackle flip for more droop.
