Jon, you might want to recheck your gear ratio, I don't remember any year changes in ratio but my 83 came stock with 4.11's. I had no problem running 70 down the hiway with 31's on, but did have to drop down to 4th on long grades.

Jon, don't know about that yotatech site, but after waiting minutes for all the ads to load I said f*ck it and backed out, (don't need all that shit on my comp) but when I had to replace my third member in 85,, I searched all the junkyards and talked to the 4or5 guys in town that had toy's (81-83) everyone came to the same conclusion that 4.11's was the ratio required, that's what I went with and everything worked out fine.

I need to add a swingout to my bumper to get the spare out of the bed, the RTT lower, and the CO2 somewhere useful... Probably shouldn't have tucked the bumper in so far when I built it. And, my receiver is dead center and I want to keep access to that... Any ideas on how I could make it work?

    Wow that is tight...damn..

hmmmm....Well i can say there is no way you can without having it stick out. And you'll need it to be up a bit due to the receiver.

Id probably go with a dual swingout perhaps..

OH! or a double shear lower mounted spindle could work well.

    I'll think on that though.

Looks like BoxRocket had his receiver in a similar spot and made it work. Just need to see if I can keep it away from the tailgate. Hmm...

away from the tail gate will be easy if you do a design like that. Because the swing arm will be butted up against the bumper itself. So it will be out a ways anyways. Easy to make it stick out a 1/4'' or whatever it may need.

How much room is above the receiver?

That receiver looks to be quite a bit lower than yours. Look at the gap from the bottom edge of the tailgate to the main bar compared to yours. It is at least an 1" lower. Or maybe he has a body lift? :notsure:

Adam has a 1" body lift. Or had rather.

But look at where it's placed in the tube. It's a touch lower but not much.

I put yours right in the middle of a 6" piece of steel. But your swing out is above the bumper.

That's correct- he had a body lift, I do not. The receiver is in the middle of 2x6" box tube, so I should have 2" above the receiver. I'd guess Adam's bumper is only 4" tall.

Makes sense that the spindle can push it all out and away from the bumper... Might not be as bad as I thought! Got a link to the double-shear spindle? Thanks for the ideas- any other thoughts?

Also seems like it would be an easy setup to remove to configure for the winter setup- sled in the bed and full size spare in the stock location.

Search pull action latch. Don't mess around. Get the 2000lb rated ones. I like the double locking one. Have used both and both are great.

    So...did some homework...

    SCvTurbov2jz.jpg

Looks like i'll be turboing. The power curve of the 5vzfe is much better than the 2jz. Even though a 2jz would be so bad ass. But considering the cost and all the fab work..doesn't seem worth it.

    BUT

I'd still like to try and find a turbo port fueler for tuning. I still think i'll move forward with the turbo idea though even without one. Or i'll cough up the 1250 bucks of the last one from URD.

This is awesome. Good to know turboing might be more effective. I might have to make some changes to the truck wishlist.

Yea i got slightly bored and actually curious.

All the SC parts are if you buy brand new and includes shipping.

Same with turbo stuff..minus some shipping as i couldn't get shipping infor from CX. But i put more in the MIS area of the turbo anyways as its kinda a custom project.

SC does have one big factor going for it...reliability. Its VERY proven. Well known and pretty bulletproof..

Its still a tempting option. But it'll run around 8 grand i think. once i crossed 6k it just didn't seem worth it to me. I didn't include a few key parts on that list. Plus all the fab work and such. And loss of low end power. Not huge mind you. But at 2k its about 25ft/lbs less. And thats with an upgraded 2jzgte pushing almost 400hp on stock twins vs a stock 5vzfe...

Sure..25..not a big deal...but the way i see it. With a uber fast spinning turbo, you'll be well over that at 2k. Power band is just better on the 5vzfe.

Also, missing from the list are Wideband O2 and boost gauge with cluster and few other small things. But i didn't include those as id get those regardless of choice of boost. But be another 500 probably for that stuff.
